You are in soup if you have a strong local currency without a corresponding strong export-led industrial/manufacturing base. So don't blame the CBN for conducting some containment actions...

Is the Nigerian economy doing so well that the Nigerian Govt is actually acting to prevent the ₦ from getting to ₦1000 - 1$? This is impressive! @BBoason how is a strong ₦ bad for 🇳🇬 economy? @ARISEtv

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved ₦2.8tn as the Federal Government’s verified electricity subsidy debt to power generation companies, following a tripartite audit that cut operators’ ₦6tn claim by more than half. The payment will be phased through bonds and tied to settling gas supply debts and infrastructure upgrades to improve liquidity and grid stability. Source: Punch

I commend the signing of the strategic Memorandum of Understanding between Nigeria’s BUA Group @BUAgroup and UAE-based AD Ports Group and MAIR Group in Abu Dhabi today. Only last month, upon the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, we witnessed the signing of the Nigeria–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to boost cooperation between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. This signing therefore represents a significant industrial and trade breakthrough arising from renewed and improved Nigeria–UAE engagement under our administration, and a tangible dividend of strengthened diplomatic ties and expanding economic cooperation, following my recent state visits and high-level engagements that prioritised trade, investment, infrastructure, and food security. The partnership between the three companies explores collaboration in sugar refining, agro-industrial development, and integrated global logistics solutions, with sugar refining and advanced logistics infrastructure to be developed at the Khalifa Ports in the UAE to enhance food security, value addition, strengthen supply chain resilience, and also deepen structured trade flows between West Africa, the Gulf region, and Asia. I have always maintained that strategic diplomacy must translate into measurable economic gains. I therefore commend the BUA Group Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu @asr_rabiu, and his BUA team for aligning with our administration’s vision for Nigerian industrialisation and showing that Nigerian companies are capable of playing on the global stage, even as this administration continues to deepen partnerships that attract investment, expand exports, strengthen Nigerian enterprise, and deliver sustainable prosperity. ~ Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Foreign portfolio investors lifted Nigeria’s foreign exchange inflows to $3.0 billion in January 2026, a 7% month-on-month increase, as elevated domestic yields continued to attract offshore capital. The development reinforces signs of gradually strengthening liquidity conditions that began to emerge toward the end of 2025, with portfolio flows playing a central role in stabilizing the market.
