Words matter. The mainstreaming of antisemitic rhetoric has dangerous real world consequences. Today's attack on a Michigan synagogue is yet another in a string of examples. Allowing anti-Jewish hatred to go unchecked harms Jews and is a threat to all of society.

Anne Frank was targeted and murdered solely because she was Jewish. Leaders making false equivalencies to her experience for political purposes is never acceptable. Despite tensions in Minneapolis, exploiting the Holocaust is deeply offensive, especially as antisemitism surges.

The arson attack on Mississippi’s largest synagogue is yet another vile attack against the Jewish people and American society as a whole. It must be universally condemned. We stand with the Jackson community and thank law enforcement for swiftly apprehending a suspect.

There’s a good reason the US and dozens of other countries and cities have adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism. When leaders move to revoke it, like what happened today in New York, it should alarm everyone—especially as violence against Jews is dangerously escalating.

At 13 years old, Steven Fenves found a way to survive at Auschwitz. He joined the resistance, served as an interpreter, and survived a death march before being liberated by American soldiers.
