VAdm K Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding In Chief Western Naval Command and Dr Adarsh Swaika, High Comissioner of India to Kenya co-hosted a Deck Reception onboard Indian Navy's frontline guided missile frigate INS Trikand at Mombasa, reaffirming the deep maritime and cultural linkages between India and Kenya. The event was graced by Kenya Navy Commander Maj Gen Paul Otieno as Chief Guest, Deputy Governors of Kilifi and Taita Taveta, distinguished representatives of Kenyan navy, members of diplomatic corps, and prominent members of Indian diaspora. Day One of the MPDSR County Technical Support Visit in Kilifi County focused on strengthening maternal and newborn health systems through structured engagements with Deputy Governors H.E. @HonMbetsa and the County Health Management Team. Through MPDSR, Counties continue to identify service gaps early, improve accountability in maternal and newborn care, strengthen response actions and guide investments in critical areas such as neonatal staffing, infrastructure, equipment and referral systems—contributing to safer deliveries and better survival outcomes for mothers The engagement underscores continued collaboration between Counties in improving quality of care and saving lives across our health facilities.

Our discussions focused on strengthening systems that save the lives of mothers and babies, particularly enhancing the reporting and response to maternal and newborn cases.

Earlier today, I received the Council of Governors-Kenya Health Committee to Kilifi County led by Khatra Ali, Director of Health at the Council of Governors for their visit from 7th–8th April 2026, aimed at supporting our efforts to improve maternal and newborn health services.

Today, I flagged off 48 tonnes of certified seeds for distribution to farmers across the county, as part of our continued commitment to strengthening food security and supporting our farmers—especially now that the rains have begun. Led by our Agriculture CECM, Dr. Chula Mwagona, the team proceeded to Mdachi Irrigation Scheme in Jaribuni Ward, where distribution is already underway to ensure farmers can plant on time and boost production. This programme is part of our ongoing efforts to empower farmers through access to quality inputs. We will also be distributing peas and green grams seeds to support diversified and sustainable farming. We remain committed to ensuring every farmer in Kilifi has the tools and support needed to thrive. @KilifiCountyGov
