Yesterday, a jury in New Mexico found Meta liable for failing to protect children from exploitation and abuse on their apps. Today, another jury in a second trial in Los Angeles, CA, has found Meta and Google liable for intentionally building harmful, addictive platforms. Yesterday, a jury in New Mexico found Meta liable for failing to protect children from abuse on their apps — fining the company $375 million in civil damages. This is a significant decision that shows that tech companies are not above the law. But we shouldn't have to depend on litigation to protect children online.
