Traditional finance already runs at a scale that dwarfs most industries: over $9.6 trillion in daily FX turnover (BIS Triennial Survey, April 2025) and roughly $70 trillion in global consumer deposits (McKinsey Global Banking Annual Review 2025). Yet the plumbing underneath it still looks like it was designed for the fax machine era. Cross border money still moves through chains of correspondent banks.
