Retrovania Land 🍕
Retrovania Land 🍕@RetrovaniaLand·
📡💀 On this day — March 30, 2001 — the invasion officially began. 25 years ago, Nickelodeon dropped one of the most gloriously unhinged and darkly hilarious Nicktoons ever created by the twisted genius Jhonen Vasquez (the same brilliant mind behind Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and his underground comic roots). This wasn’t your average sugary Saturday morning cartoon. It followed Zim, a short, incompetent, egomaniacal alien invader from the planet Irk, banished to Earth on a fake “secret mission” to conquer it (mostly to keep him out of the Tallest’s hair). His only backup was his glitchy, waffle-obsessed, pig-loving robot sidekick GIR — built from spare parts and pure chaotic energy. Standing in their way was big-headed paranormal investigator Dib Membrane, the one kid who actually saw through the green-skinned disaster next door. Helping (and often hindering) the chaos was Dib’s terrifying little sister Gaz, and their brilliant but hilariously absent-minded scientist father, Professor Membrane. The voice cast that made it legendary: - Richard Horvitz as Zim — screeching arrogance mixed with glorious pathetic failure - Rosearik “Rikki” Simons** as GIR — every “DOOM!” and taco meltdown delivered with unhinged joy - Andy Berman as Dib — the paranoid hero we all related to -Melissa Fahn as Gaz — quiet, deadly, and instantly iconic - Rodger Bumpass (yes, the voice of Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants) as Professor Membrane — delivering those booming, dramatic science monologues with perfect over-the-top flair The show was sarcastic, grotesque, packed with body horror vibes, and aimed straight at those of us who had aged out of the usual Nick sugar rush. It felt like a late-night indie comic had crawled onto the screen and started causing glorious trouble. Despite building a massive cult following (endless “Woo-hoo!” screams, GIR obsessions, and “DOOM” memes that still live rent-free in our heads), it got the axe after one full season and a handful of Season 2 episodes. Low ratings and sky-high production costs did it in — Nickelodeon simply wasn’t ready for something this beautifully weird in the early 2000s. But like any proper horror icon, Zim refused to stay dead. Jhonen Vasquez originally came from the indie comic scene, and in 2015 the invasion continued in style with the Invader Zim comic series from Oni Press. Written with heavy input from Vasquez himself (along with Eric Trueheart and artist Aaron Alexovich), the comics picked up right where the show left off — more chaos, more doom, more GIR being gloriously GIR. They gave fans years of new stories, collected in beautiful trade paperbacks that still sit proudly on retro shelves everywhere. And of course, we eventually got the 2019 Netflix movie **Enter the Florpus** to feed the hunger even more. Who else here was parked in front of the TV exactly 25 years ago today, watching “The Nightmare Begins” and instantly knowing this was something special? Were you hiding the horror from your parents, quoting GIR while eating cold leftover pizza at 2 a.m., or laughing at Professor Membrane’s latest dramatic science speech? Drop your favorite episode, quote (“I’m gonna sing the doom song now…”), comic issue, or unhinged childhood memory in the replies. Let’s keep the invasion alive in the crypt! Still conquering Earth after 25 years. DOOM forever. 🛸💚🍕 #InvaderZim #Nicktoons #JhonenVasquez #ZimAndGIR #CultClassic #2001Nostalgia #OniPressComics #ProfessorMembrane #RetroNick

Behind the scenes of some of the sounds featured in Impact Foundry! Invader Zim’s balloons - recorded and used by founder @kevinmanthei in his score for the animated series Invader Zim! 🎬🔥 - Impact Foundry begins with found and studio-recorded percussion in its purest form. From metal sculptures in the open air to drums recorded in a unique echo chamber, this library reinterprets percussion in new and exciting ways. These are real performances, captured with all the weight and character intact. We then transformed those raw recordings into towering trailer hits, hybrid combos, driving pulses, and cinematic loops designed to slam hard and cut through any mix. To round it all out, you'll also find a collection of tonal patches, drones, and pads, each carrying the DNA of the original performances - now refined, layered, and shaped for modern hybrid, trailer, and cinematic scoring. #ImpactFoundry #TriumphAudio #HybridPercussion #EpicPercussion #FoundPercussion #Composer #HybridScoring #Kontakt #VST #SampleLibrary
