Iowa State have added Mt Carmel, IL’s Liam Kelly to their 2026 recruiting class. Kelly was previously committed to Illinois before flipping to the Cyclones. He is ranked #64 overall in his class by @MatScouts1

NAIA national champion and U20 World Team member Piper Fowler is transferring to Iowa State. Fowler wrestled for ISU assistant coach Jake Kadel at William Penn.

Breaking news: Iowa have named their latest edition to the staff and its former World medalist Jenna Burkert. Jenna made four World Teams and won bronze in 2021. Her most recent role was as head coach of Bixby High School in Oklahoma. This is a great hire by Coach Chun.

David Carr edges high schooler Jayden James, 9-7 to win the WTTs at 74 kg. Carr heads back to Final X where he will face veteran James Green.

Spencer Lee gets the tech fall, 13-3 over Anthony Knox in the finals of WTT at 57 kg. Lee is headed back to Final X where he will get his rematch with Luke Lilledahl.

Macey Kilty is headed to Final X at 62 kg Kilty pinned Claire DiCugno in 1:06 to win the World Team Trials event. Kilty will have a rematch with Adaugo Nwachukwu for the World Team spot at Final X.

David Carr edges Evan Wick, 6-5 to make the finals at 74 kg! Carr will wrestle Jayden James tomorrow in the finals.

Felicity Taylor racks up a 10-0 tech fall in 1:44 over Kendra Ryan to advance to the finals of World Team Trials. She will face Morgan Turner in the best-of three tomorrow.

Spencer Lee wins 12-2 over former teammate Brody Teske, and he advances to the 57 kg finals of World Team Trials. He will have the winner of Liam Cronin and Anthony Knox.

Former Fort Dodge standout and University of Iowa wrestler Dru Ayala announces he’s headed to Iowa State. The move reunites him with his brother Drake, who was recently announced as an assistant for the Cyclones. 125 pound pickup with three years of eligibility remaining.

NJCAA All-American Ray Griffin of North Idaho has committed to the Hawkeyes. Griffin was fifth at 285 in 2026 and finished fourth the previous season.

In another development, former University of Iowa standout Brandon Sorensen has been named head coach of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club. Sorensen was a 4x AA under Tom Brands, wrestling for the Hawks from 2013-18.

The Hawkeye Wrestling Club have announced the signing of four senior level athletes. Crew Howard, Dean Peterson, Patrick Kennedy, and Mikey Caliendo. Howard is a Clarinda, Iowa native who was a three-time All-American for the University of Nebraska-Kearney, finishing as the national runner-up this season for the Lopers.   Peterson was a four-time NCAA qualifier, finishing in the bloodround on three occasions. His final season was with the Iowa Hawkeyes.   Kennedy was a two-time All-American, is a two-time U23 National champion, and wrestled at the 2024 U23 World Championships.   Caliendo is a four-time All-American and two-time NCAA finalist for the Hawkeyes, and he was the U23 National champion last summer.

It’s official. Iowa State announces the addition of Drake Ayala to their coaching staff. The Fort Dodge native was a two-time NCAA finalist for the Hawkeyes and three-time All-American.

The Hawkeyes have picked up a late addition to their 2026 recruiting class in Eddyville-Blakesburg state champion Landen Davis. Davis finished third, runner-up, and then champion over his last three high school seasons
