✍️ On the occasion of the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims 2026, the @ICJ_Asia has released an important study highlighting a critical dimension of Nepal’s transitional justice process. A holistic transitional justice (TJ) process must go beyond criminal prosecutions alone. It should ensure that reparative social and economic justice work in tandem with accountability measures to deliver comprehensive justice for victims. The ICJ’s baseline study, “The Place of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Nepal’s Transitional Justice Process,” examines the major economic, social, and cultural rights (ESCR) violations committed during the armed conflict. It further assesses their long-term implications for transitional justice, accountability, and guarantees of non-recurrence in Nepal’s post-conflict context. 🇱🇦 Today, @ICJ_Asia launches a new Baseline Study underscoring serious gaps in access to justice for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in #LaoPDR at the Residence of the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Bangkok. The study identifies legal barriers, discriminatory provisions, and justice processes that risk re-victimizing survivors, emphasizing the urgent need for survivor-centred and inclusive reforms. It further highlights concerns that men and gender-diverse persons who experience #SGBV are frequently excluded from legal recognition and protection in both law and practice.
