"Every time someone discovers A NEW LEAF, Elaine May's immortality is assured,” writes @RifewithKatie. rogerebert.com/women-writers-…

A NEW LEAF (1971). The first film by iconoclast genius Elaine May, who also co-stars w/ a very Matthau-y Walter Matthau. Dark, acidic, nearly bleak slow-mo screwball comedy that somehow ultimately lands with a restrained sweetness reminiscent of THE APARTMENT.

finally watched A New Leaf (1971), what a wonderfully eccentric and hilarious directorial debut from Elaine May

Holy shit A NEW LEAF is next level ... Elaine May you are master

I don't want to blow anyone's mind, but I saw A NEW LEAF for the first time tonight and Elaine May is very good at directing motion pictures

I need more friends in New York who don’t wanna talk about our lives but bond instead by incessantly quoting Elaine May’s A NEW LEAF.

A NEW LEAF (1971): a comedy sketch about east coast old money’s ironic lack of urbanity stretched to Herculean feature length, really making it resemble myth. To Elaine May, cash makes crass and those born rich are childish gods, wicked & helpless. as funny as movies ever got!🌿

Elaine May wrote, directed, and stars as a kooky heiress married to Walter Matthau’s murderous fortune-hunter in May’s auspicious screwball debut A NEW LEAF! New 4K restoration of this acclaimed cult classic from one of cinema’s greats opens May 15! ifccenter.com/films/a-new-le…

Introduced my dad to A New Leaf (1970) last night and I’m still thinking about this shot composition. Wild to have this shot in your film debut, but Elaine May was a genius and not going to take no for an answer.

"An erotic thriller where eroticism is the agent of redemption, not damnation." - Slant Magazine Lana and Lilly Wachowski's funny, stylish, and oh-so-steamy noir is one of the best feature debuts of the nineties. See BOUND at 11:30pm Fri & Sat! 🔥ifccenter.com/films/bound/

"There’s this very strange horizon line that cuts everything half-and-half. And the light, it’s either light or dark. So, it is just an otherworldly, surreal story space" - Katie Aselton and Mark Duplass on shooting in Joshua Tree, and Magic Hour eyeforfilm.co.uk/feature/2026-0…
