@Daniel_Batal Thank you Daniel, this is great advice. I try to funnel traffic to relevant content for the same audience, but did not occur to me to alert audiences to different content.

Strategy, my friend.
YouTube is going to recommend content that has statistically performed well with your overall target audience.
If you have a target audience which includes seasonal churn that you think specifically needs to be addressed, then you should be implementing a content strategy in the places available to you.
Cards, End Screens, Pinned Comments, Featured links in your video descriptions and for you specifically... use your content.
It's super easy to take 5 seconds in your video and say, "If you're just beginning your exam journey, don't let this more advanced video throw you off. I've got an entire playlist of videos for beginners linked below to help you achieve absolute success!"
Strategy.

I'm a few months into the daily Shorts test that I've been running on my main channel.
Beyond the initial observations I posted in a video, I'd probabaly add that the more I test, the more it seems that Shorts have the ability to act just like any other content on YouTube if (and only if) you develop a strong content strategy.
When I paused publishing them initially, momentum dipped off. But I hadn't created a strong enough back catalog of Shorts content or given YouTube enough time to allow traffic data to help determine the true target audience for these Shorts.
As I made more targeted content, the group performed better overall.
Even when I stopped uploading Shorts for a whole month (June 10 - July 10), the momentum initially dipped but as a whole, kept gaining traction that entire month upward.
I just started publishing again the other day and the entire group is now surging back up just by adding 3 new, targeted daily uploads.
Conclusions:
1) Targeted content strategy is key
2) Build a strong catalog of content
3) Publishing 1 Short a day works
4) Time is your friend
5) Stay as consistent as possible but...
6) Taking a break is okay
...and no. I've still seen aboslutely zero negative impact on my long form content reach because of Shorts being on my main channel.
