This National Indigenous Peoples Day we ask you pause & reflect on the history & contributions of Indigenous peoples. As PHSA’s VP of Indigenous Health and Cultural Safety, Joe Gallagher, kwunuhmen, says, it’s important we “make visible the Indigenous peoples of these lands.”

A spring COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for people who are at higher risk of serious illness. The vaccine remains free and available for everyone 6 months and older. More information on the spring COVID-19 campaign can be found here: immunizebc.ca/vaccines/covid…

Unsure if you’ve had the measles (MMR) vaccine? Check out immunizebc.ca for info on accessing your records. If you moved to BC from another province/country, try to get the records sent to you. Born after 1970 and don’t have a record? You are considered unimmunized.

@MeInYYJ Yes, it is safe to receive the live vaccine if you are living with a CEV individual. Additionally, vaccination acts as another layer of protection and will decrease the likelihood of exposing this person so measles.

@ImmunizeBC @BCGovNews Is it safe for someone living with a CEV/immune-compromised person to get a live vaccine or could it put the other person at risk?

Global measles cases are on the rise, including the first case in BC since 2019. Thankfully, we have the power of prevention! Vaccination is the best protection you can provide against measles, so make sure you and your family are up-to-date (especially if you’re traveling). 1/

@MeInYYJ Thanks for your question. This is a publicly funded vaccine and can be provided for free to many BC residents. Please speak to your healthcare provider about whether the vaccine is recommended for you.

Check that your child’s immunization records are up to date in the Provincial Immunization Registry and submit any missing records. This will prevent children from missing school in the event of a measles case, as a person without a record is considered unimmunized

@suzannehgrant Thanks for your Q. Starting in 1981, the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine was provided to all children 12 months of age and older. If you followed the schedule, you would likely receive the MMR vaccine at 12 months and a 2nd MR vaccine in the 1996 province-wide campaign. 1/2

@ImmunizeBC If I was born in BC in 1983 and followed a standard vaccination schedule, would I have received 2 measles vaccinations, or should I be seeking a second booster? If a booster is recommended, can I just reach out directly to my local public health clinic?

The HPV vaccine prevents more than just HPV; it protects you from many forms of cancer too. But just how effective is it? Extremely effective! A recent study from Scotland found ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women vaccinated before the age of 14 statnews.com/2024/01/25/hpv…
