This man in the photo is an American of Saudi origin. His name is Saad al-Madi, and he is 75 years old.
He was sentenced to 16 years in prison because of 14 posts he wrote on @X from his home in the state of Florida, in which he criticized the Saudi authorities.
Nothing in those posts called for violence or revolutions. They were simply mild criticisms of a country where you are forbidden to open your mouth except to praise the king and his crown prince.
What is striking is that no one had ever heard of this man. His follower count is under a thousand, and his account is almost inactive with no engagement.
But that did not spare him. He was arrested the moment he arrived in Saudi Arabia.
