Ten years ago, I typed out a warning in real time in Google docs while hundreds of anonymous wombats and chupacabras watched over my shoulder. Three weeks later a hacker drained $60M, 15% of all ether was at risk, and Ethereum forked to survive. We called it before it happened. A decade of audits, formal verification, and hard lessons later, I think we've made enough progress to get it right the next time. I shared my story in @FortuneMagazine, out today.

Her research at Carnegie Mellon focuses on making distributed systems secure, private, and efficient. The protocols that protect transactions, preserve anonymity, and keep decentralized networks running at scale are built on the kind of work her lab produces. She is a Sloan Fellowship recipient, an Intel Rising Star Faculty Award winner, and has earned multiple best paper awards including the ACM SIGMETRICS Rising Star Award. Her PhD is from UC Berkeley. She is a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council GeoEconomics Center. Welcoming Ari Juels @AriJuels , Professor of Computer Science at @cornell_tech , Co-Director of IC3, and Chief Scientist at @chainlink Labs, taking the Proof of Talk stage this June. He is best known in crypto circles for work pioneering and coining the terms PoW (Proof of Work) and MEV (Miner / Maximal Extractable Value), and for his academic group’s invention of zk-TLS (DECO) and the first TEE-based blockchain service (the Town Crier oracle). He co-authored the original Chainlink whitepaper. His contributions are commemorated in the name of the smallest unit of LINK, the Juel. Before his involvement in crypto(currency), Juels’s research focus was on crypto(graphy). He served as Chief Scientist at RSA and a Distinguished Engineer at EMC Corporation. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley. Juels recently published his second near-future sci-fi thriller novel, The Oracle (Talos, 2024). The Louvre Palace. June 2–3. Ari is on stage.
