"I had the whole script pasted on the backboard of my hotel room so I could see from start to finish where we were in the story," says Eleanor O'Brien of the Irish language film Báite, winner of the Capital Irish Film Festival Audience Favorite Award. irishstewpodcast.com/ciff-2026-wrap/

Just finished reading @cormacmoore’s book on the Boundary Commission. It’s very good. Shows how the odds were stacked against the nationalist side due to the ambiguous wording of Article 12 of the Treaty & the UK govt appointing the Commission’s chair. Free State side played its weak hand hand poorly. Eoin MacNeill comes across badly as does WT Cosgrave. Would Kevin O’Higgins have been a better Irish appointee to the Commission?

And we're off. Over the next five days I'll be leading this year's Northern Ireland Emerging Leaders delegation in Washington DC and New York. Our schedule is absolutely packed. Excited for this year's cohort who will be presenting their policy papers.

Four days. Three films. Five voices. Irish Stew was back as podcast-in-residence at the @Solasnuacht Capital Irish Film Festival in Washington DC. We wanted to capture a flavor of what the experience had to offer. Give it a listen and let us know!

An Irish friend in Western Australia, Dave McKnight, attended the recent commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the escape of six Fenians on board the #Catalpa. He sent me this photo showing six pelicans flying in formation over the Catalpa monument at Rockingham near Perth.

Flights booked to Japan for Christmas, it's a long way off, but I'm still giddy, Japan has always been top of my travel bucket list, but for years, I just couldn't afford it.
