If you take the stance that the “internet” should be considered a public utility (which I do) there should be basic & fair guidelines that these companies adhere to. One of them should be that you can reach someone who follows you w out having to pay. Just my opinion.

Instagram not making us pay to have a profile is a privilege . You earn all these followers and support genuinely and they make you pay to reach all of your followers. What if Instagram really showed your post to every single one of your followers? They don’t. They will not allow you to make a substantial amount of money off of them without them getting their cut. They are running a business.

Lizzo is spot on here. Social media is where most digital marketing happens, and the pivot from chronological feeds to algorithmic has massively impacted an artist’s ability to reach and leverage their audience. Even if you boost a post, followers aren’t seeing it.
