One major difference between our Supreme Court and Canada's: third parties (amici here, interveners there) are permitted to argue more frequently in Canada. Witness this recent case, where 17 (!) different interveners were granted argument time:

@Gerald_Chan_law @Nader_Hasan_law Just a genuine question from a non-crim guy.
Is the SCC’s case law on 24(2) robust enough that breaches of this standard going to result in exclusion? Or will it just be allowed anyway?
English

@JOpolsky @Nader_Hasan_law Not sure I fully understand. Which part of 24(2) not keeping up do you mean?

R v Bykovets is one of the most important s. 8 Charter cases of the last decade. The Court is moving towards a mosaic theory of privacy, which will be huge in the AI, big data age. Nice to see my partner @Nader_Hasan_law quoted in the judgment. decisions.scc-csc.ca/scc-csc/scc-cs…

Very honoured to be a member of the working group for this important close look and long overdue overhaul of the Rules! Excited to work alongside the other members and co-chairs. Let the hard work begin!

Ontario is launching a FULL review of the rules of civil procedure. Alongside Chief Justice Morawetz, we are working in consultation with justice partners to deliver necessary modernization. All part of Ontario's plan to bring outdated justice services into the 21st century.

@steve_vladeck I could be convinced to move to Canada. I hear Toronto is a lovely place to raise kids.
