my brother plays cello (v well) and I sat in on a bunch of his lessons while doing homework when I was younger can't answer the first 2 but for #3, yes pinky is apparently important and for #4 yes he complained about it for a long time but eventually he stopped so idk if it gets better or if he just stopped complaining

Where are my cello/bowed instrument friends I need help. Internet research is broken and ai has too many different answers 1. How tight to make bow? I can find no definitive answer, also no great answers on rosin usage 2. Is your fretting hand elbow (idk what it’s called for cello) high or low? I naturally rest mine low but it doesn’t seem to impede my fingering? (I’ve played guitar for ages so my real weakness is bow hand, I can pluck cello upright at beginner level as is) 3. Do you use your pinky or just 3rd finger? I have bad hands so my pinky is garbage 4. My thumb fucking kills from trying to hold the bow the correct way does this just get better with time or am I doing some wrong if it hurts? Side note: cello is hard!
