I didn’t know Dilla, only met him once, but I’m not a gatekeeper of Dilla’s music at all. To me it’s never too late to learn, if it’s today, cool. But this is incorrect 😂 just 1 example but Busta’s The Shining came out in ‘96, I was 16 & me & my homies was reading liner notes 😂

Nobody was fucking with Dilla’s production until Common “Like Water For Chocolate” came out And then Electric Circus was critically shitted on because Dilla’s sound wasn’t really understood at that time (the only single from the album was the Neptunes beat “Come Close” Dilla’s cult started around the time Donuts came out

Also Dilla changed his sound/style like every 6 months 😂 so I can see how some people might get introduced to a certain era of Dilla and be confused. Some people, not me but some people 😂
