In one of my early startups from my 20s, we scaled pretty quickly, but what did not scale was the reliance on ME. I get ZERO satisfaction, fulfillment, or gratification about being NEEDED in business. The more NEEDED I am, the more the business will be held back by me.

I stand against negotiations – it’s just a waste of time and the opportunity cost for both parties will always be more significant than whatever you THINK you will get by winning. Just have a point of INDIFFERENCE and walk away if this point of INDIFFERENCE is being compromised.

By FAR the most expensive and most difficult lesson I have learned (and to this day still struggle with) is SEEING the best in someone, but KNOWING their best is NOT enough and letting my KNOWING defeat my SEEING!

The software industry is not for the faint of heart and after being a non-tech tech founder for over a decade now here’s what I learned… 1 - Sell before you build. 2 - Get extremely clear on the problem and solution. 3 - Scope out the solution in the most significant way possible. 4 - Get 5 estimates if you plan on outsourcing. 5 - Speak with other STARTUPS that the software development firms have already worked with. 6 - Have 2x the amount of money you think you need and 2x the amount of time you planned for. Like I said – it’s not for the faint of heart but I do believe it's the single greatest industry to create the most impact in an efficient manner.
