Talked this week with a recruiting staffer who mentioned there had been two prospects his program liked, but couldn’t offer because of grades. I keep telling student-athletes: “Control what you can control” and “make the most of your opportunities.” Not just attacking your workouts, going to a lot of camps, etc. — but taking care of your academics to ensure you’re not leaving doors closed to potential opportunities. We can complain all we want about how the transfer portal has affected high school recruiting. People talk about it like the boogeyman. But some of the same things that have always mattered still do — and now more than ever as spots tighten up. You know college opportunities are tougher than ever to earn out of high school. Don’t cost yourself what could be your best or only option by not doing your part — not just on the field, but all-around.

Country Day wide receiver Curtis McAllister visited LSU this past weekend. The son of Saints legend Deuce McAllister is a 6'4", 180-pound sophomore. McAllister has won back-to-back state titles in basketball with the Cajuns.

This is another one of those PSA opportunities for high school prospects… An NFL-bound corner running a sub-4.4 40 just made national headlines and has analysts more confident in his potential of being a top-10 draft pick. Recognize how few guys are actually running that time even at that level and 1) how few of y’all actually are (though obviously hand/laser differences are part of this convo) and 2) don’t be discouraged by your solid times because of unrealistic expectations.

Garrett Nussmeier says he'll be celebrating the NFL Draft in New Orleans, so that when his name is called, his dad will be able to come celebrate the moment with him. Looks forward to hearing his name called, whoever the team, and is excited to be a part of whatever franchise drafts him.

West Weeks says he thinks Mansoor Delane should be a top-5 pick in this year's NFL Draft.

West Weeks jokes that he's sure some people don't think a white boy can run, so he hopes he helped put that narrative to bed.

West Weeks gives all credit for a strong Pro Day, running particularly well, to his trainers for their help with starts and techniques. Says it all came together today. Says he wanted to hit in the mid-4.5-range, so seeing a 4.5 flat brought a big smile to his face.

West Weeks says he thinks LSU's continuity in its linebacker room speaks volumes about Blake Baker and the type of coach/person he is that guys (including himself and his brothers) want to stay and play for him.

Notes from Sonny Cumbie on #LATech opening spring practice: - QB Trey Kukuk will go with the 1s in spring. Blake Baker will be non contact this spring coming off a torn ACL but he's able to move and pivot. - RB is a major question mark. Lot of guys competing for the job.
