Senator, with respect, you have represented Minnesota in the United States Senate since 2007. The fraud did not happen in a closet. It was on the front page of every newspaper in the state for years. The Justice Department says Feeding Our Future alone stole more than $250 million in federal child nutrition money that was supposed to feed hungry kids during Covid. 78 defendants charged. 65 already convicted. According to the DOJ, fraudsters spent the money on luxury cars, lake homes, and vacation properties in Kenya and Turkey. And that was the appetizer. The U.S. Attorney's office in Minneapolis estimates fraud across 14 high-risk Minnesota Medicaid programs could top $9 billion. Nine billion, with a B. Fox News reports the Treasury Department is investigating whether some of that money funded al-Shabaab, a designated foreign terrorist organization. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called Minnesota "ground zero for what may be one of the most egregious welfare scams in our nation's history." Governor Walz's own Program Integrity Director admitted the state "prioritized compassion over compliance." That is bureaucrat-speak for, we knew, and we let it happen anyway. Walz dropped his reelection bid on January 5th because the stink got too thick to walk through. And now Amy Klobuchar is suddenly the reformer? The senior senator who watched these 14 programs balloon from $2 billion to $4.3 billion in five years says she just now noticed. Republican State Representative Kristin Robbins, who chairs the House fraud prevention committee, said Klobuchar has been "completely absent" on this issue in the Senate. There are three options. Either Klobuchar did not know, which makes her unfit. Or she knew and stayed quiet, which makes her complicit. Or she knew and her party benefited politically from the very constituencies running the schemes, which is worse. Pick one, Senator. Minnesota deserves an answer, not a campaign slogan and a hashtag.
