@upnext4brewers Not criticizing them at all. I’m sure they had a talk with him. Appreciate the comment!

@JLucroy20 Jon, I loved and appreciated all of your efforts and success with the Brewers. But I can’t figure out why you criticize our 2 leaders, Woody and Yeli, after this on the field display? I just didn’t like you questioning their leadership. It surprised me. All my best to you!

This is what happens when you don’t have veteran leadership in clubhouse. Some people think it’s funny, I think it’s horse***t. If he was my teammate, he and I would have a major issue. Kids come to these games and emulate us. That is a responsibility we must uphold to the highest standard. This isn’t the WWE.

@TritonTrojan31 He shouldn’t have had to because it should never have happened in the first place. If he did this when Trevor Hoffmann was on the team he would been screwed.

The edge no one talks about and few players have.

@coachbrianglass @JLucroy20 Luc, isn’t gaslighting here. I saw it with my own eyes. He willed it to happen. The difference is the majority of those “worked as hard as anyone” players typically all lack one major component and it isn’t athletic gifts…it’s being a killer

Agreed. Machines are great for many things, ideally defensive drills like pops ups or framing/blocking, or maybe working on CBs or SLs, but for FBs I just had the BP pitcher move 10 ft closer if I felt like I needed some velo work. We used to call our machine Cy Young because no one could hit it.

@JLucroy20 Machines are convenient, thats all. Its a time thing mostly imo. My college coaches always threw BP. Helps with adjustability and feeling different swings for different locations etc.

I have 0 need to attend a college camp. I understand that colleges use machines, so do big league teams. That’s fine, but I prefer live arms. I throw BP to all my players, including 3 that play for your organization that I coach in HS. Also, I wasn’t “gifted as a big leaguer.” I earned every bit of it, and was gifted nothing.
Dulins Dodgers (TX)@DulinsTX

Have you guys been to a college camp in the last 5 years? Not saying it’s right but they use machines non-stop. Lots of guys get decided on at a college camp. So there’s that…Not everyone is as gifted as a big leaguer, just remember that.

@JLucroy20 You made it so I won’t say you’re wrong and I admit you know better than me. I do have a question though. Tee & cage is better than not have a bat in your hand because dad works too much. I never did much cage work and played college, but I also had “sandlot” games

Machines are tough for timing. I hated hitting off of them, with the exception of the old school iron mike with the arm, I could time that up. I’d hit breaking balls off machines very rarely. I’d have my flipper simulate offspeed pitches randomly during cage work. I think that the machine is great for pop ups and receiving/blocking drills, but for hitting it should be used sparingly imo. I know that some people can’t throw BP, but if you don’t have at least some exposure of hitters to a live arms timing mechanism then it really doesn’t do much good. You can have the best swing in the world but if your timing is jacked up then it won’t matter. If you want to see more velo then have a BP pitcher set up L screen 5-10ft closer than normal. I promise it will get on you quick. Prince Fielder would do his cage work like this.

Ive now had 3 former Major League Baseball players that are friends of our family tell me a few nuggets regarding my son and his baseball endeavors: 1. Stop with “lessons”. “Stop letting coaches validate themselves by finding something to change.” 2. Let him hit, hit, hit. 3. Stop hitting off machines. They aren’t realistic. Tee, flips, BP. That’s it. 4. Let the athlete be an athlete.

Hitting is all timing. You load when the pitcher breaks his hands and have your front toe down on the pitchers released point. It’s like a dance with the pitcher, you load according to his tempo and mechanics. Then you hit live off of pitchers. I would stand in on bullpens to see the harder stuff. That’s easy to do and all youth hitters should be doing so as much as they can. They won’t swing but just stand in and track.

@JLucroy20 If we define BP as a time to lock in mechanics, I get the appeal of overhand tosses or flips. How does it translate live in game? How does taking 50 swings off a coach throwing 45 mph overhand help a hitter's eyes and internal clock for 95mph with movement?

I’ve hit off those too and I guess they are a little better, but replicating game like conditions is really only doable with a live arm, or, an iron mike would be second to that. Now I have seen the new video screen cages with a hole the ball shoots out of superimposed over a video of a pitcher, I do think that is pretty neat.

@JLucroy20 How does your preference change if the machine has the ramp attachment to see the ball coming down? I had the same preference as a player, but now coaching I’ve hit off the machine with the ramp and actually don’t mind it

@DMEASrecruiting Mike Trout would do the same thing. Hit machine CBs on field or in cage, and often that was his pregame BP, but JL wasn’t even close to Mike Trout so I needed to see live arms 😀

@JLucroy20 I hated the fastball off the machine but I used the machine to throw breaking balls early in camp to get my load and timing down. Watched manny do it so I figured I’d try it!

@TigersJUK Do regular BP with a live arm really close. Machines don’t have timing mechanisms. Only machine I ever hit off was the iron mike.

@JLucroy20 The offer to sit and talk in person still stands. I know you ignored that offer last time you were talking about me, but I’m happy to have a conversation with you so you don’t keep attacking someone you’ve literally never met. We can handle it like adults or…not I guess
