I’m running to be Governor of Michigan to ensure everyone gets a fair shot. I'm a mom, military spouse, educator — and Michigan’s Secretary of State. I’ve never backed down from a tough fight or hard work. And I know together we can build the future Michiganders deserve.

I’ve spent nearly eight years as Secretary of State proving we can make government deliver for Michiganders. As governor, I’ll bring that same focus because our kids deserve a Michigan that works for them.

Today’s hearing before the Michigan Supreme Court was about something simple: respecting the will of the people. Refusing to send these pro-worker bills to the Governor’s desk is blatantly undemocratic and illegal. Michiganders deserve leaders who will lower costs, protect pensions, and stand up for workers.

Michigan must be a place where everyone belongs. This Jewish American Heritage Month, we honor that — and I’ll work every day to make it true.

As special education teachers, my parents spent their lives working to ensure every student they taught was seen, heard, and cared for. I grew up in the back of their classrooms watching them show up every day to fight for the kids who could so easily be left behind. During Teacher Appreciation Week, I am grateful for every educator in Michigan who shows up for our kids. I see my parents in each of you, and as governor I will always have your backs.

Last week at @WDET I talked about lowering costs, strengthening our schools, and protecting our democracy. Local news keeps our communities informed and connected, and I’m grateful for the role it plays every day here in Michigan. And of course, no visit is complete without signing the interviewee wall!

Spirit Airlines shutting down this weekend is a devastating blow to thousands of workers and families in Michigan.
 I stand with the flight attendants of Spirit AFA-CWA Local 76 and every employee paying the price for the chaotic, reckless policies coming out of the White House — they deserve support, dignity, and a voice in what comes next.

Last Sunday, I joined thousands gathered in Detroit for the NAACP’s annual Freedom Fund Dinner. A few days later, the US Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, the crowning achievement of the civil rights movement. The joy, fellowship and inspiration of Sunday’s dinner, and the devastation of the court’s opinion just a few days later, reminds us all that the fight for our democracy — for our fundamental rights and freedoms — is far from over. We march forward knowing the power of the people will be greater than the people in power.

On May Day, we’re reminded that dignity at work is always worth fighting for. This week in Dearborn, I was proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with Teamster nurses on the picket line as they demanded what every worker deserves: fair pay, safe working conditions, and respect on the job. I’ll always stand with Michigan workers. And we must show up for the nurses who show up for us every single day, because they deserve to be cared for just as they care for all of us.

The fight for “one person, one vote” isn’t over, and in Michigan we’re not backing down.

When healthcare providers speak out about unsafe staffing, it’s on us to hear and support them. That’s why I’m proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with Teamster Nurses as they demand respect. Their ask is simple. Fair pay. Safe working conditions. Dignity in the workplace. May we all protect and care for the nurses who give so much to protect and care for all of us.

Everyone deserves a safe workplace. And as we mark Workers' Memorial Day I know there are too many Michiganders who've devoted their lives to the places where they work, only to find their lives or careers cut short because of unsafe working conditions. So today, we remember those we’ve lost. And tomorrow, we keep fighting to make sure every worker makes it home safe.

I’m grateful that all in attendance at the White House Correspondents Dinner last night are safe. No matter your political beliefs, everyone should be safe from violence. I hope last night marks an opportunity for us to come together, condemn this violence, and chart a path forward that ensures we solve our problems at the ballot box, not with violence.
