@JohnOBrennan2 It’s not confined to X, I received this “ad” on YouTube on 25 December. Google responded “We weren't able to review the ad you reported. This can happen because the ad has already been removed, the link to the ad in your report didn't work, or other technical issues.”

I can't remember the last time I renamed variables manually in #rstats. I always use my data dictionary for renaming! That way, if I ever need to update names in the future, I'm only updating once in my data dictionary, not in both my data dictionary and script. 🙌

@Edward__Burke His decision to prioritise replies from blue tick (=shit poster) accounts has the added benefit of collecting them for easier blocking also.

@stevewotton It was a range of increasingly apparent factors that eventually culminated together. There was a final tipping point but by itself it would have been far from sufficient.

Has anyone ever 'won' an argument, in the sense of the other side concluding "oh yes, I now see my arguments on this were wrong - you've changed my mind"?

@rolandmcs that representation will go some way towards addressing the perception (and reality) of under-representation that fuelled Brexit-ism. And that will be fundamentally more democratic than the status quo. 3/3

@rolandmcs Yes, you’ll get coalitions; yes, govt formation may take longer; yes, compromise means diluting manifesto commitments; yes, fringes will gain seats, but their gains will be proportional to their vote share, and 2/3

My book is done. I need to write a conclusion to the last chapter and will likely rewrite some paragraphs, but I won't make major changes anymore. So if you're interested in building reproducible analytical pipelines with #RStats, take a look it's free: raps-with-r.dev

@Carl71165475 GDP is a measure of *output* which includes things like the numbers of school lessons and rail journeys. So when schools and stations are shut, GDP falls. (This is even without taking account of indirect costs, eg. working parents having to stay at home to look after kids.)

Reminder of the main reason why the UK economy stalled in February - #strikes, especially by teachers but also civil servants and railway workers, which knocked about 0.2 percentage points off monthly #GDP growth... 🤓

@IrelandEmbGB In my experience it’s not accepted at egates at UK airports; it’s often misclassified as a ID card when “the sign says no EU ID cards, Zzzzz”, and it’s an alien object to the Gendarmerie at Lille Europe (Eurostar).

@OneStuttering Hidden deep in Twitter settings (on desktop only) you can view a list of keywords/categories which they/it have decided to attribute to your account. I pruned mine a few times to remove as much politics as possible.

Is there a way to turn off recommendations of 'formulaic' tweets? e.g. "I made this much money / have this many followers, I started with nothing, this is how I did it 👉🏽🧵" Nothing against those people, I just don't want to see it in my recommendations🤔

Really not a fan of all this morally loaded "workers must show pay restraint" rhetoric. It's entirely rational for people facing 10% inflation to try to get a pay rise. Tell them no if you want, but don't tell them they were wrong to even ask.

@djmgaffneyw4 Agreed. But I think history will ultimately reveal him to be Johnson’s diversionary puppet. Better to have puritans pray to “Frosty The No Man” than step outside the igloo. Brexit has gotten this far on lies and misrepresentation so there’s no incentive to change tactics.

Well this is interesting: @tomburgis - author of Kleptopia - how dirty money is conquering the world - has just won the defamation action brought against him by one of the companies that features in his rather gripping investigation:
