Yet another appalling anti-Semitic attack: Two men stabbed outside a synagogue in north London. Man arrested following incident in Golders Green this morning. Only the latest in a string of attacks in this predominantly Jewish neighbourhood. Terrible.

We sit down with hereditary peer Charles Courtenay, the 19th Earl of Devon, as he prepares to be removed from the House of Lords. He argues that his long lineage and the fact that his ancestors fought in the Crusades provide Parliament with a valuable connection to our past.

Shabana Mahmood leaving government would be a catastrophe. It means her ILR reforms would undoubtedly be shelved, and there would be little point in continuing to fight a losing battle on migration with insurgent populist parties. Where are the Labour MPs to support her?

It's deeply weird that the unsustainability of our long-term fiscal position isn't a bigger part of our national conversation. We're so bad at paying attention to slow moving catastophes (cf. economic stagnation).

The House of Lords has disgraced parliament. Their existence is based on trust, now roundly abused by a small group of unelected zealots. Time for a serious look at who these people are, and how they are allowed to govern us. The X trolls will be jubilant, but we will be back.
