Standing atop the weathered back of the Bixi, a dragon-headed tortoise of immense mythical power, this ancient Chinese stele serves as a silent sentinel between the worlds of the living and the dead. Carved from dark, stoic stone, the monument represents more than mere craftsmanship; it is a profound vessel of memory. The intricate vertical columns of calligraphy tell a story of a life once lived—perhaps a scholar’s wisdom, a general’s bravery, or a family’s enduring devotion.
Each stroke of the chisel reflects the rhythmic heartbeat of a bygone dynasty, capturing the fragile human desire to remain relevant long after the breath has faded. The tortoise, symbolizing longevity and the ability to carry the weight of the universe, bears this burden of history with a stoic, upward gaze. To look upon it is to feel the weight of centuries and the poignant, universal hope that our names, like these etched characters, might eventually withstand the relentless erosion of time.

🩺 Incredible sophistication of Ancient Egyptian Doctors!
⏳ The "Edwin Smith papyrus" is an ancient Egyptian medical book, dated to 1,600 BCE but copied from an even older document from 3,000 BCE.
📜 The papyrus was acquired in Luxor in 1862 by American Edwin Smith, a pioneer in the study of Egyptian science.
🧐 Upon his death in 1906, the papyrus was given to the New York Historical Society & turned over to American Egyptologist James Henry Breasted in 1920 for study. A translation, transliteration, and discussion in two volumes was published by Breasted in 1930.
⚕️ The papyrus (a medical textbook on surgery) presents information on 48 cases of injuries, primarily to the head, neck, and upper torso.
It includes detailed descriptions of symptoms such as 💀 fractures, spinal injuries, and paralysis, reflecting an early understanding of the brain & cerebrospinal fluid.
🫀 Also, it reveals, the ancient Egyptians’ knowledge of the relation of the pulse to the heart and of the workings of the stomach, bowels, and larger blood vessels.

Archeologists are attempting to decipher Ancient Mayan ruins from 10,000 ft 🛩️
LiDAR has peeled away the jungle canopy over the Yucatan Peninsula in the Campeche region of Mexico and Guatemala revealing structures numbering in the tens of thousands.
They are seeing things they have never seen before, including large clusters of ruins.
Without excavation (difficult) they are interpreting these clusters as marketplaces.
