Thank you Chinese Deepseek devs for proving GenAI is a giant scam inflated by capitalists and is actually worth less than $5.5 million.

The raw chain of thought from DeepSeek is fascinating, really reads like a human thinking out loud. Charming and strange.

Introducing DeepSeek R1:1.5b Running Locally in Cursor! In less than 4 minutes, I set up the DeepSeek R1:1.5b model, download it, and run it locally to seamlessly work with code in Cursor The video is shown in real-time, with the model impressively running on an Intel Core i5 😱 using Ollama and the CodeGPT extension 👇

DeepSeek stole the AI thunder: - with zero hype from CEO, - zero "omg guys it changez everythin" influencers - no swanky demos - no bloated promises - no hints at "AGI achieved internally" They did it by shipping an actual product.

@joboaler There are too many “Ed Consultants” and not enough Consultants actually in the classroom. Especially with these “AI Educators” If PD is offered by a person in the classroom, I feel it is much more believable— but not many Ts have time to present and share. Ts need time to share.

So many educators I am meeting are saying the same thing - teachers are not coming to PD offerings in the numbers they used to. Is anyone else finding this? And does anyone understand why? I would love to know more …. edsurge.com/news/2023-12-1…

@playfulpython @s_gruppetta_ct @sama @teachingpython Definitely, thats the fun part of teaching my older kids- you can really test reading comprehension & problem solving skills with Generative AI. And kids have a hard time coming up with novel ideas. At times I think they wish they had those basic problems to solve instead

@s_gruppetta_ct @KellyPared @sama @teachingpython Agreed 💯 LLMs can teach basics, but still struggle with reasoning required for novel scenarios. So students will still need to code to get job. If LLMs get to the point they can do anything, they still need to be prompted, and that ... is coding. Just in English

@sama Teaching coding and AI to kids, what are your thoughts? @teachingpython As teachers, are we wasting our time, or hoping for kids to still have a hand in coding and changing the world through tech?
