@bhltours @guywalters @WeAreTripsmiths Walked the great escaper Bram van der Stok’s route across the Pyrenees from France to Spain in 2024. That was some walk he did.

Concluding our first leg of the trip we stopped at the former Gestapo HQ in Gorlitz where many of the Great Escapers passed through when captured. Some lived. Many did not. @guywalters @WeAreTripsmiths superbly recounted by Guy at each step of the Escapers journeys.

LATEST: Representatives from Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) and Expedition Operators Association Nepal (EOAN) jointly inspected the Khumbu Icefall this morning and concluded that no route can be opened until the hanging serac collapses, which they expect to happen within the next few days.

Born on this day, April 14, 1930, René Desmaison, legendary French alpinist—was one of the most prolific climbers of his era who participated on the first ascent of Kumbhakarna (Jannu) in 1962, he went on to climb more than 1,000 peaks over the course of his career. From the Alps to the Andes and the Himalaya, Desmaison established 114 first ascents on previously unclimbed mountains and pioneered numerous challenging winter routes in the Alps.
