Getting this a lot from Claude Code lately.
Anthropic must be facing severe compute constraints. A month ago, I saw constant shipping of new features. Claude was everywhere! Now, silence. Design is a mess. New models feel nerfed. Default is set to mid reasoning.

This is the biggest step Google has made so far at monetising AI Mode – sponsored ads are now being mixed with organic results.
Previously, sponsored results only had the ability to show at the end of the response, either within a carousel of sponsored products or appearing as a link card preview, as shown.
This is a change that was announced at Google Marketing Live a few days ago and covered by @rustybrick as the new "Highlighted Answer Ads", and I'm now seeing them live within AI Mode for several queries.
There is also a different type of ad called "Coversational Discovery Ads", which can also display within the AI Mode output, with the example shown by Google seemingly showing the ad as showing at the end of the response.
The big difference in the formatting of the ads and the free listing results that sit both above and below is that the ads go directly to the product page URL, whereas clicking the free listing results opens the standard product grid with a selection of retailers (being a less direct traffic mechanism).
This is the biggest step that Google has made so far at monetising AI Mode, because users could easily not see the subtle "sponsored" label and treat it as a reputable recommendation from the list of items within the output.

Shops being closed in Germany on “one day only” Sunday means shelves are already empty Saturday noon, still not restocked on Monday, leaving you only 4 days a week to actually do your grocery shopping. It absolutely ruins Saturday for everyone and affects at least 3 more days around it (2nd order effects). Anyone defending this system is an idiot.

Seit ich Vollzeit arbeite, Kinder und Haus mit Garten habe, geht mir nicht in den Kopf wieso wir Deutschen uns jedes Wochenende so unter Stress setzen. Einkaufen, Rasen mähen, laute Handwerkerarbeiten. Alles, wofür unter der Woche keine Zeit war, muss in den Samstag gepresst werden. Während man in bspw. Polen seinen Wocheneinkauf ganz gemütlich auf den Sonntag legen kann. Wieso nicht auch bei uns? Wir haben 3 Millionen Arbeitslose, die beschäftigt werden könnten.

When I started to work in Germany 20 years ago in the automotive industry, we had about 80% of "doers" and 20% of managers.
80% of people were either designing the HW, writing code or running tests. We had design, test and production all in-house. The other 20% were the managers, entertaining the OEMs while the other 80% were getting the job done.
Now, this 80% has basically been reduced to almost 0%. We have 100% bullshit. Some small teams are still resisting. But for how long?
Beside the on-going civilizational and cultural suicide, Germany is committing an industrial suicide.
