There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!). Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role. Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me. The film’s taken from Elijah Wald’s Dylan Goes Electric – a book that came out in 2015. It’s a fantastic retelling of events from the early ‘60s that led up to the fiasco at Newport. After you’ve seen the movie read the book.

Bought OTD in 1969: the first album, the first mix. Love this record - it remains my favourite NY - for its intricately arranged psychedelia (thx Jack Nitzsche) and deep introductory dive into the world of Neil; intense! The Loner is immense

Bought OTD in 1971: this was a big album for me so I like the whole thing (even the Mike Love track that everyone hates). There are so many delights - Don’t Go Near the Water, Surf’s Up, Looking at Tomorrow (phasing) but the stand out is Carl’s Feel Flows

I’m pretty disgusted with how the message of Christianity and most religions get twisted and used to teach otherness and hate. If God is real, I am not feeling them through church - I’m feeling them through love, nature, and good people. Religion has proven to be mostly poison.

Hard anniversary today. Light a candle, sing, & show some love to someone who needs it. I remember that the day that orange asshole “won” was the most depressed I’d ever seen her (and she was generally not a depressed person) so VOTE HIM INTO OBLIVION. I love you all. ❤️🥁❤️

Just been to see Bob Dylan in Liverpool unlike some of the people around me who came to a Bob Dylan gig for a (loud) chat . Why pay to go to a show and talk through it?! 🤬🤬🤬

@WraggStephan @nme1980s @SherylGarratt @DuruttiColumn @ViniReilly @Dojo007 I still love it and still perform it the odd time - not every show I do but sometimes… I think I’ve written lots of songs as good or better since but the New Order connection gives it its infamy. I just wish it had been produced/mixed/mastered better - and more rehearsed!!!

I first met Paul face to face in 2008 and he was lovely, he even interviewed me at length for his Tony Wilson book in 2014, coming especially for a day here in Leicester to do that, so we well got over this ‘difficult’ review by then!

@nme1980s @SherylGarratt @DuruttiColumn @ViniReilly @Dojo007 Obviously for me that’s still a very painful read though I’m consoled by the fact that 20 years later Paul wrote the highly generous sleeve-notes for my ‘All Was Numbered’ album. I pretty much denounce my ‘Quartet’ side too! It did me a lot of damage at the time.
