This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

seeing a lot of "higher gas prices won't affect me because I don't drive very much" and unfortunately it is my sad duty to inform you that your food does not teleport to the grocery store

Give A Shit About Nature

Tim Wong noticed the California pipevine swallowtail butterfly had nearly vanished from San Francisco. So he did something about it. He tracked down the one plant the caterpillars can eat — the California pipevine — got cuttings from the botanical garden, and built a backyard enclosure from scratch. He started with 20 caterpillars and has now raised thousands. Every year since 2012 more butterflies have been spotted flying free in San Francisco. Conservation doesn't require a big organization. It can start in your backyard too. Planting the right native host plants (even in a pot or small patch) is one of the simplest ways to help butterflies like this. What's one native plant you're growing this spring?

My mother-in-law, who I love, was telling us at dinner about the invention of the blackberry. And I’m like wow that’s crazy. And so I’m listening and she’s like “yeah there were all these towers and this new technology available and they were the first ones to invent something like this but then of course it lost out to the apple” and I’m like, hm … okay. And I’m listening and I’m listening and I’m trying to follow along. But I’m getting really confused and everyone else is just nodding along politely. And finally I realize, five minutes in, that she’s not talking about fruit.

Mumbai’s long-standing AH Wheeler & Co book stalls were discontinued across the Western Railway network, bringing an end to a historic tradition associated with Rudyard Kipling and commuter reading habits. Most stalls were shut after March 31, 2026, while the original structure at Mumbai Central was preserved and repurposed, retaining a small piece of the city’s railway heritage. ✍️: @rajtoday 📷: @rajtoday

She spent FIVE days at TWO Mumbai railway stations (CST & LTT) tracking THREE long-distance trains & spoke to 130 migrant workers boarding them. Nearly half said they were leaving for one reason: no gas cylinder, no way to cook, eating out too expensive. Their workplaces were running. But without a way to feed themselves, staying made no sense. (2/7)

Unfortunate that President Murmu has given her assent to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill 2026. The Act is now one of the most regressive pieces of legislation on transgender rights in the world. To see India reverse decades of progress is shameful.
