We have enough butter. Hours of work at the median income to acquire enough calories to survive is negligible compared to the ussr. The dollars wasted are all due to local problems. The cost of building homes in CA has nothing to do with USA spending abroad. If you actually redirect that spending into CA home construction, it will actually just be more expensive to build homes in CA. No net new additional homes will be built due to the spending.

I feel strongly that we have enough guns, have had enough guns for a long time, and the American society could use some butter for a change. We have so many problems at home that the billions of dollars wasted abroad could *probably* be deployed here and make some meaningful change

How is that relevant to the total healthcare delivered. If you are arguing that no one should be in healthcare debt, I am totally on your side. But you can’t achieve this without making healthcare cheap, and to make it cheap, you need to expand capacity. Build more hospital beds, add more doctors and nurses, or increase their productivity. But building more hospital to make healthcare cheaper is not comfortable for existing hospitals, since they can’t charge as much for the same existing services. That’s the fundamental struggle
