The flaws in this Private Members Bill have been laid bare, the risks are clear and unaddressed, the safeguards are ineffective. If assisted death is to permitted it can not be in this form nor through this process.
Luciana Berger@lucianaberger

After hours of scrutiny, and no meaningful changes to the Bill accepted, experts and professional bodies have not changed their position: The Assisted Dying Bill remains deeply flawed and unsafe. Bill supporters blame everyone else but won’t make the Bill safe.

This conversation with Kamaldeep Bhui sounds incredibly insightful! The idea of how our blindness to context can negatively impact both patients and practitioners is a crucial issue in healthcare. Often ignoring the larger contex whether it's cultural environmental, or personal can lead to misdiagnosis or ineffective treatments. It’s great that this discussion is bringing attention to the importance of a more holistic nuanced approach to patient care. Understanding the full picture can truly make a difference in improving outcomes for both patients and healthcare providers. I’m looking forward to hearing more from this conversation👏

"Everyone's overwhelmed. We are literally on our knees." Dr Lade Smith, president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, says the government's investment in mental health services is 'not quite enough' to tackle the crisis.

This awesome paper finally got published! The conclusion is, basically, that we've been mismeasuring lifespan, so the resulting heritability estimates are halved compared to if we measured without counting stuff like getting killed by cars or guns or accidents.

Our new paper on reassessing the heritability of human lifespan is out in @ScienceMagazine! 🧬 For decades, the consensus has been that genetics explains just 20–25% of lifespan differences. We found that after accounting for extrinsic mortality, that number jumps to ~50%. A 🧵

Supporters of #AssistedDyingBill threatening abolition of HoL need to look to themselves. It was a mistake to •introduce it as a PMB •tell MPs the details could be worked out in Lords •denigrate opponents •ignore the professions •put AD ahead of better palliative care.

Reflections on New Year resolutions, transformations - identity, kindness, compassion, learning, things that make us sparkle are important - more so than unrealistic transports to another existence - except in fantasy novels (kambhui.com) issuu.com/abpl/docs/av_3…

Remembering loved ones, our ancestors, is part of the bitter-sweet experience of New Year. I remember my dad and mum each day but New Year always drives it home - life is precious - to be lived well. That’s what they would say. Happy New Year Suhana - a fabulous 2026 awaits.
