While we thank God for your safety during the time, let us also acknowledge the government’s effort (our effort) in ensuring safety of everyone, and the contribution of our security agencies. What have we done differently? In the last few months, we have initiated a statewide security surveillance, clamping down on miscreants disturbing motorists. Through the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce, we have arrested over 300 ‘Omotaku’ across the state. We have also initiated monitoring teams that go around monitoring the roads especially at night to ensure safety of every road users. The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps also monitors our pedestrian bridges and under the bridges, to displace and apprehend unauthorized users who hides in those areas to unleash evil on innocent Lagosians. It is not yet eldorado but we are not resting on our oars until sanity is restored to the state. TW #CleanerLagos #SaferLagos

nobody disturbed me. I even slept inside the car safely until my mechanic arrived. In a place where anything can happen, God showed me mercy and protection. It wasn’t comfortable, but it was peaceful. God is truly the greatest 🙌All glory to Him for safety and grace

Own Your Environment Clean surroundings create a healthier Lagos for everyone. 🌍🧹 As we observe the Monthly Environmental Sanitation, let’s all take responsibility by sweeping our surroundings, clearing drainages, and disposing of waste properly. Blocked gutters and indiscriminate dumping cause flooding and environmental hazards. Together, we can keep our communities safe, clean, and beautiful. 🚫 Do not dump refuse on roads or medians. ♻️ Use approved waste collectors. 🤝 A cleaner environment starts with you. Keep Lagos Clean. Keep Lagos Healthy. @jidesanwoolu @drobafemihamzat @gbenga_omo @gboyegaakosile @LanreBajulaiye @BarrBimbola @Mr_JAGs @Riddwane #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG #KeepLagosClean #EnvironmentalSanitation #CleanerLagos #LagosState #SanitationDay #CleanEnvironment #CommunityResponsibility #ZeroWasteLagos

LAGOS RE-INTRODUCES MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE …Governor, Deputy lead State officials to clean up Mushin corridor   Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday, announced the re-introduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation in the State. The Governor said the exercise will hold every last Saturday of the Month between the hours of 6:30am and 8:30am but without movement restrictions. He stressed that the exercise would be monitored by State officials with appropriate sanctions to be meted out to erring neighbourhoods and markets. Sanwo-Olu made the pronouncement during a ceremony held in Olosa Bus Stop in Mushin which marked the symbolic flag-off of the monthly sanitation. The Governor, who led his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and member of the State cabinet on the mission, said the culture of environmental responsibility must be imbibed by the residents across all communities in the state and reflect same in their lifestyle. He observed that environmental sanitation had become a resident obligation, as people would often clean up their surroundings voluntarily. The Governor, however, said the commitment dropped, following the cancellation of the exercise by previous administration, resulting in haphazard environmental cleanup. Sanwo-Olu emphasised that regular sanitation would uphold a fundamental principle that achieving a clean city relied not only on the action of government but also on the discipline and cooperation of its citizens. The Governor recalled a court judgement that led to the decision to halt the exercise which was informed by movement restrictions enforced during the exercise. He emphasised that the State Government respected the rule of law and the court’s authority by suspending the monthly sanitation programme at that time. Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the State Government had reviewed the exercise’s enforcement aspect. This resulted in reduced restrictions but he assured that the responsibility for maintaining a clean environment would remain unchanged. Sanwo-Olu reiterated that the monthly sanitation would revive the culture of environmental consciousness in all the communities. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab said the re-introduction of the monthly sanitation was a bold step towards improving the wellbeing of the residents as well as bequeathing a safe, clean and sustainable environment to the coming generation. Wahab said that the exercise was in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration, highlighting the objectives to give Lagosians access to a conducive and liveable environment. Wahab said one of the goal of the event was to further educate residents on the need to take ownership of their environment and ensure they continually clean their  surroundings, dispose waste responsibly and imbibe the culture neatness. He advised communities that may want to defy the directive to avail themselves of the Lagos State 2017 Environmental Protection Law, noting that offending neighbourhoods would be dealt with in accordance with the Law. @jidesanwoolu @drobafemihamzat @gboyegaakosile @gbenga_omo @LasgMOE @tokunbo_wahab @LanreBajulaiye @BarrBimbola @Mr_JAGs @Riddwane #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG

This morning, I was at Mushin–Agege Motor Road with the Lagos State Ministry of Environment to flag off the return of our monthly environmental sanitation exercise. I’m glad to share that the exercise will resume on Saturday, 25 April 2026, and will now hold on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. I encourage every Lagosian to take those two hours seriously. Step out. Clean your surroundings. Clear the drains in front of your homes and dispose of waste the right way. The Lagos we all want will not appear overnight. It will come from the small actions we take together, street by street from LGA to LGA. Our commitment is clear. We will support this effort and ensure it is taken seriously. Together, we can keep Lagos cleaner, healthier, and better for everyone who calls it home.

I am pleased to inform all Lagosians that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will resume effective Saturday, 25th April 2026, holding on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30AM to 8:30 AM. During this period, residents are enjoined to clean their surroundings, clear drainage channels in their frontages, and dispose of waste properly as a civic responsibility. This exercise is a collective responsibility and a vital part of our commitment to a cleaner, healthier, and flood-resilient Lagos. And it shall be backed with the full enforcement weight of the Lagos State Government. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos

Earlier today at the Ministry in Alausa, I briefed the media on the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction released by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) and what it means for Lagos State. The forecast indicates that Lagos will experience above-normal rainfall during the 2026 rainy season, with annual rainfall projected between 1650mm and 3030mm. The rainy season is expected to start in the last week of March and end in the first week of December. Across the State, we expect an average rainfall of about 1965mm. Area projections include: • Ikeja: Onset March 31 – Cessation December 2 – 1932mm • Badagry: Onset March 28 – Cessation December 3 – 2010mm • Ikorodu: Onset March 31 – Cessation December 2 – 1935mm • Lagos Island: Onset March 30 – Cessation December 2 – 1968mm • Epe: Onset March 29 – Cessation December 3 – 1984mm This projection is linked to a weak La Niña and a neutral El Niño Southern Oscillation phase, which typically brings earlier rainfall onset, increased rainfall intensity, and slightly lower temperatures. As a coastal state, Lagos also experiences tidal lock-up, where high lagoon levels temporarily slow down the discharge of stormwater into the lagoon. When this happens, water recedes naturally once the tide drops. Our preparedness measures include: • Continuous year-round drainage maintenance and upgrades • Deployment of weather and river gauge monitoring stations • Strengthened Flood Early Warning Systems • Close monitoring of Oyan Dam water releases with the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Authority • Full readiness of emergency response agencies We are particularly monitoring communities along the Ogun River corridor, including Agiliti, Agboyi, Itowolo, and Ajegunle, as well as low-lying coastal communities. I appeal to residents to cooperate with the government: • Stop dumping refuse in drains and canals • Do not block drainage channels with construction materials • Avoid building on drainage alignments • Clear drains in front of your homes regularly Residents in low-lying areas such as Owode, Iwaya, Makoko, Badia, Ijora, Isaalu, Pota, and Shibiri should remain alert and be prepared to move to safer grounds when necessary. To motorists, please drive cautiously during rainfall, and to the media, I urge responsible reporting, as flash floods that clear quickly are normal during heavy rainfall events. Lagos is prepared. With cooperation from residents, we can ensure a safer and more flood-resilient 2026 rainy season. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos

Today, we held a strategic business meeting with the World Bank team on Nigeria Disaster Risk Management at Alausa as part of our collaboration to strengthen emergency preparedness and risk management across Lagos State. Lagos is a coastal state, bordered by about 486 kilometres of the Atlantic Ocean, with roughly 25 percent of its land mass covered by water. These are natural realities that expose us to flash flooding. We did not create this geography, but we must manage it responsibly. Every year, we issue early warning signals ahead of the rainy season. Later this month, following the NiMet rainfall forecast, we will communicate updated advisories to residents and relevant agencies including LASEMA and the State Command and Control Centre. Early information helps communities prepare for sea level rise and heavy rainfall. Beyond warnings, we have intensified year-round cleaning and dredging of primary, secondary and tertiary drainage channels, including manholes across the State. We have also taken firm enforcement steps where human activities worsen flooding, especially where people build on floodplains or destroy mangroves that serve as natural buffers. Science shows that during periods of heavy rainfall, tidal lock can occur, preventing storm water from discharging effectively. This means infrastructure alone is not enough. Compliance and environmental responsibility are critical. Our decision to ban styrofoam and single-use plastics was based on our local realities. Lagos generates about 13,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily. We must move from a linear waste model to one that treats waste as a resource, whether for wealth creation or energy generation. The collaboration with the World Bank will focus on identifying risk gaps, strengthening early warning systems, improving emergency response plans and enhancing public awareness. We welcome both technical and investment support that will position Lagos as a model for disaster risk management in Nigeria. We remain committed to building resilient infrastructure, strengthening institutions and protecting lives and property. Preparedness is not optional for a coastal megacity like ours. It is a responsibility we take seriously. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos
