As the end of the Summer Term approaches, here’s a quick summary of the current situation with pupil attendance in schools.
Academic year to date (up to 26 May 2023):
📍Overall absence: 7.5%

We’re tackling poor mental health, poor attendance and poor behaviour.
This year, Mental Health Support Teams will be available to another 900,000 children in schools across our country.

Unsurprisingly, year on year patterns are persistent - poor school attendees maintain negative trends, although it seems more amendable to change in primary school than secondary.
