Pakistani leader receives a call from the Iranian president and hopes Iran would finalize a deal with the US soon to unlock Iran's economic potential. Iran's President Pezeshkian telephoned Pakistan's Prime Minister Sharif on the occasion of Eid, and likely updated him on Iranian efforts to get billions of Iranian funds frozen in Qatari banks. The Pakistani readout did not confirm if this came up. PM Sharif "hoped that the peace deal could be finalized soon" as this "would help unlock the true economic potential of Iran and benefit the entire region," Sharif urged Pezeshkian, according to an official readout from the Pakistani PM's office. Sharif told Pezeshkian that "a great future lay ahead for both countries, once peace was restored in the region."

Lahore: May 27، 2026. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call earlier today from H.E. Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha. During their warm and cordial conversation that lasted around thirty minutes, the two leaders exchanged Eid greetings and conveyed best wishes to each other, the peoples of their two countries as well as the Muslim Ummah on this joyous occasion. The Iranian President expressed his profound gratitude to the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for Pakistan’s important role in the efforts to bring peace to the region. He appreciated the fact that other regional countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye, were also on board in these peace efforts. The Prime Minister once again expressed solidarity with the Iranian leadership and nation over the loss of precious Iranian lives suffered in the current crisis. He appreciated the Iranian President’s kind words for him and his team and stated that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had undoubtedly made tireless efforts to bring peace to the region. He hoped that the peace deal could be finalized soon and would be done with dignity and honor for the Iranian nation. This would help unlock the true economic potential of Iran and benefit the entire region. The Prime Minister stated that as a brotherly and neighboring country, Pakistan would always stand by Iran and that a great future lay ahead for both countries, once peace was restored in the region. The two leaders agreed to remain in close coordination with each other.

CHART OF THE DAY: Brent oil time spreads have fallen to the lowest level since early March as the energy market bets that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen. Despite the sell-off in time spreads, the oil market remains in significant backwardation.

Tim Miller has such a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has warped his peanut-sized brain that he’s starting to take Iranian state media as fact and peddle disinformation on their behalf. Maybe Tim should register under FARA for being an agent of a foreign country.

Trump's initial demand was unconditional surrender. The current MOU is open the strait that had been previously opened but under Iran control + withdraw our military. And then maybe after 2 months we can continue nuclear negotiations that had been happening before. Yikes.

Once the strait opens we’ll find out the true extent of the damage caused by the war on the Gulf’s energy infrastructure. I’m expecting a fast recovery in production from Saudi Arabia and the UAE (within 3-4 weeks), other countries will take months to recover. #GCC #OOTT
