When I first started, a few gay performers and creators told me I’d never make it because of my size and because I didn’t fit the industry’s traditional look. They said I was wasting my time, didn’t belong, and constantly disrespected my work. Fast forward to today: I’ve won 6 industry awards, earned over 40 award nominations, became the first Black plus-size male performer to film a series for one of the biggest gay studios in the world, been featured in 3 major magazines, and became the 3rd Black gay American performer to reach 1 million followers. What’s crazy is that many of the people who doubted me aren’t even around anymore, and some of those who are have apologized. My message is simple never let anyone tell you what you can’t do or make you feel like you don’t belong. If you believe in yourself and are willing to put in the work, go for it.
