Full grown adults who can’t vacation, take a gap year, have hobbies, play an instrument, speak multiple languages, swim, cycle, skate, or backpack. Just a lifetime of hustling and trying to escape survival mode. These are subtle poverty metrics no one really talks about.

A grumpy man can control a family without ever raising his voice. He just has to make his displeasure expensive enough. A long silence at dinner. A ruined car ride. Soon, everyone starts pre-adjusting. The kids are told “not now” before they can ask. She chooses the restaurant he likes, the movie he won’t complain through, the route that avoids traffic because traffic makes him unbearable. This is how a household becomes organized around one person’s refusal to regulate themselves.

I do not think that there is a radio station in Uganda that has an audio library that’s as diverse as Touch FM’s was. Such a great collection of music. Franco Baitwa (Mistrie) deserves his flowers for that.

When we don't question entrenched gender and societal norms, we keep thinking for young people & know what's best for them yet they are not monolith and have diverse needs + concerns. Tangled with religious beliefs that only push for abstinence as the only option #WhatWillYouDo

@MamaKLA True. The other day I was having a similar conversation on ‘division of labor’ and how such a concept is used in capitalism to turn people into bits and pieces of organizational machinery. But you see, an education focusing on people buying grades rarely promotes learning.

@ThatsMatthan Right, I really appreciate schools that teach students 'how to learn'.

Right. We learned about divide and conquer only to grow up and perpetuate its effectiveness.

Some of us don't have a nervous system that can support the paths dictated for us. That's why perfect self-expression runs the machine (community/society) well with everyone in their true place, not in their true pressure.
