I can't keep these tears from falling from my eyes as I look out this airplane window. I'm trying not to let people around me see me cry, but I was a high school dropout, and I just passed my dissertation defense and earned my Ph.D! I am now, officially, Dr. Manuel Scott.

Your voice has power. More than you think. Every word you speak… every moment you choose hope… every time you encourage instead of giving up… it matters. Because hope is contagious. One student hears it… then starts to believe. Then starts to try. Then starts to change. Don’t underestimate what your voice can do. You might be the reason a student, or someone, sees a brighter future.

10 signs you grew up without a man to show you how to be one. 1. You wrestle with self-doubt more than you admit… quietly wondering if you’re enough. 2. You learned to act tough… not because you felt strong, but because you didn’t feel safe. 3. You felt something break inside watching other fathers laugh with their sons… because you didn’t know what that felt like. 4. You craved affirmation from men… but when it came, you didn’t know how to receive it. 5. You let music, culture, and the streets teach you what manhood looked like… even when it led you in the wrong direction. 6. You thought women, sex, or attention would make you feel like a man… but the emptiness was still there when it was over. 7. You became strong… but not whole. 8. You wished—more times than you can count— that there was a man you could call when life got heavy… but instead, you went quiet… because you knew you were on your own. 9. You were taught—directly or indirectly— that your feelings were weakness… so you buried them. 10. And deep down… you’ve carried a father-shaped absence that nothing quite seems to fill. And people look at you now and say, “Man, he’s strong.” But they don’t know what it cost you. They don’t see the nights you had to figure it out alone. They don’t feel the weight you’ve been carrying. They don’t hear the silence you’ve had to survive. But my brother… I see you. And you should be proud of yourself. Because somehow… without a blueprint… without a guide… without a man showing you the way, you still became a man. You survived without a man to raise you… Now it’s time to become the man you needed.

That Others May Live by Rev. Dr. Manny Scott Recently, after one of my presentations, a retired soldier—looked to be in his 70s—limped over to me. He thanked me, then said, “I’m a retired U.S. Air Force Pararescue Jumper… a PJ.” I had never heard of that, so I asked him what it meant. He said, “We’re the ones who jump into the most dangerous environments—combat zones, disasters, anywhere—so we can rescue the sick and the injured. We train for years to go anywhere… air, land, or sea.” Then he told me about one mission. Some soldiers were trapped on top of a freezing mountain. Sick. Injured. Stranded. He said, “We knew there was no guarantee we’d make it out alive… but we went anyway.” They flew into the combat zone. Jumped out of the plane. Hit freezing water. And started climbing a snow-covered mountain. On the way up, they were pinned down by enemy fire. He said, “I got shot in the leg… but I kept fighting. We all did. We lost some men out there… but we kept going.” And somehow—they made it. They reached the top. They rescued the wounded. They completed the mission. Then he looked at me and said, “People always ask why we would risk our lives like that.” And he said, “Our motto is simple… That others may live.” I sat there thinking about that. Because there was another Rescuer… Who saw that the people He loved were trapped—wounded, broken, and dying. And He didn’t stay at a distance. He stepped into our world. Walked into our pain. Entered enemy territory. And even though there was no avoiding the cost… He went anyway. He climbed a hill called Calvary. Took nails in His hands and feet. Gave His life on a cross. Why? That others may live. And three days later… He rose. Easter is the reminder that the rescue mission was successful. That death didn’t win. That hope is alive. And that no matter how far gone we are… we are never beyond rescue. Happy Easter.

Being a father isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being present. Showing up. Staying engaged. Choosing your children—again and again. Because your presence will shape them more than your words ever could. #fatherhood

Everybody sees the stage… …but they don’t see this. Packing in silence. Early flights. Long security lines. Delayed flights Late nights. Driving through storms. This is the part nobody claps for. But this is an important part of the process that shapes the speaker. If you’ve ever thought about becoming a keynote speaker… I’m working on something for you. Stay close.

24 years. 8,766 days. 12,623,040 minutes. That’s how long we’ve been married. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has been worth it. You are still my favorite place in the world. No view compares. No destination competes. Just you. Happy Anniversary ❤️

Today I was reminded, again, why I do what I do. A student from Slovakia reached out to me and told me she was doing a school presentation about my life. This morning, she sent me a photo of her presenting to her class, with me on the screen. From sleeping on floors in homeless shelters...to speaking into classrooms across the world. Moments like this humble me. They remind me that your story, your struggle, your voice, when you choose to share it, can travel farther than you ever imagined. You never know who’s watching. You never know who’s listening. You never know whose life is being shaped by your courage to keep going. To that student, her classmates, and her teacher in Slovakia, thank you. I’m truly honored. Be Salty. 🌍 #Education #BeSalty #Slovakia

My teacher said she was our Trojan Horse. I thought she meant condoms. 😅 Turns out… she meant she wanted to help us get through the gate.

My friend saw his dad shot nine times. The adults told him to go ride his Big Wheel. No counseling. No conversation. No help processing what he saw. Then people wondered why some of us struggled. Some kids/students don’t need grit first. They need healing. #TraumaInformed #EducationMatters #BeSalty

Most teachers don’t lack skill. They lack permission. Permission to disrupt. Permission to go deeper. Permission to stop teaching content and start changing lives. You don’t always need a new curriculum. You need courage. Revolution doesn’t start in Washington. It starts in your classroom. Be the teacher they talk about 20 years from now. Even on your worst day, you can be a student's best hope.

There are real behavior problems in schools. Some of them absolutely stem from poor parental involvement and a lack of student responsibility. That’s true. But here’s another truth: Sometimes… it’s not the students.

Sometimes, the biggest believer you need is the one in the mirror. From high school dropout to college success, I learned self-belief can move mountains. Keep pushing, even when no one else does. #SelfBelief #NeverGiveUp

This is why I do what I do. Today, I received an email from a student I spoke to over 15 years ago while speaking at a middle school in Oklahoma City. At the time, the school was facing serious challenges—gang violence, racial tension, and students who were considered “at risk.” Here’s what they said: “Your words and presence truly mattered. Even now, in 2026, I can say that you changed my life in a positive way…” That message stopped me in my tracks. It’s a reminder that you never really know who’s listening, or how far your words might carry. To every educator, mentor, and difference-maker out there: Even on your worst day, you can still be someone’s best hope. #BestHope #NeverGiveUp #StudentsFirst #KeepShowingUp #PurposeDriven

I’ve often said, "The stronger our internet connection gets, the weaker our human connection becomes." But now, I have to add: the more time we spend staring at screens, the more our minds seem to suffer too. It’s not just our relationships that are fading; it’s our ability to think deeply, connect meaningfully, and grow.
The Vigilant Fox 🦊@VigilantFox

This teacher-turned-cognitive scientist shared a disturbing reality that left the room stunned. “Our kids are LESS cognitively capable than we were at their age.” Every previous generation outperformed its parents since we began recording in the late 1800s. So, what happened? Screens. Dr. Jared Horvath explained: “Gen Z is the first generation in modern history to underperform us on basically every cognitive measure we have, from basic attention to memory, to literacy, to numeracy, to executive functioning, to EVEN GENERAL IQ, even though they go to more school than we did.” “So why? … The answer appears to be the tools we are using within schools to drive that learning (screens).” “If you look at the data, once countries adopt digital technology widely in schools, performance goes down significantly, to the point where kids who use computers about five hours per day in school for learning purposes will score over two-thirds of a standard deviation LESS than kids who rarely or never touch tech at school. And that’s across 80 countries.” But screens aren’t just decimating learning and making new generations less intelligent than the ones before them. They’re doing something far worse. And when you take a closer look, it isn’t pretty. 🧵
