Today, I spoke with the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. I extended my condolences to His Highness, the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar following the passing of the Father Amir, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. We also discussed the strong partnership between Canada and Qatar, with a focus on our growing economic, defence, and cultural ties.

Today, the FIFA World Cup comes to a close.   Hundreds of thousands of fans packed the streets of Vancouver, Toronto, and communities across the country to watch the beautiful game and cheer on Team Canada — who played with extraordinary character, resilience, and grit.   Our team and our fans showed the world that Canada belongs on any pitch, against any team.   Canada’s soccer journey is just beginning. The best is yet to come. 🇨🇦
