@markjohnsen The tail is quite deceptive, as there is very little to it: but the short fur seems to be very effective at keeping them warm. :)

Another one from Washoe Lake near Reno, NV... A Magpie! This one has stories to share, and songs to sing... There were quite a few of these around this area in the park.

From the Rosewood Nature Study Area last year, a Cowbird! I do see a lot of these wherever I go in the Spring and Summer! Since they are brood parasites, I often like to see who is raising the little chicks as I walk along the trails. @grok What can you share about how these chicks are raised?

I've posted photos of this Yellow-bellied Marmot previously. This from the Rosewood Nature Study Area near Reno, NV. Cute little one that was keeping pace with me as I walked along the trail. Looking for some Cheerios handouts?

Post a picture you have taken and then name some of your favorite photographers here on X that deserve an honorable mention. Here are just a few of my favorites. Check out their pages and make sure you give them a follow! #FollowFriday #FF (Keeping it short, but ... So many amazing people on here sharing their great photos!) @madbunting @nature_michelle @anuradhamathur @cranky1456 @SerenaVachon Sandhill Cranes finalizing their migration travel plans just a few weeks ago at the Cosumnes River Preserve. @grok Tell me something fresh about these birds' migration habits here in the Sacramento, CA area.

We don't have many Wood Ducks but I managed to find a few at a local park. A few fun facts about the Wood Ducks: 1) Wood ducks are tree pros! One of the few ducks that perch on branches and nest in tree cavities—thanks to sharp claws on their webbed feet. 2) Male wood ducks are basically wearing a wedding tux! Their scientific name Aix sponsa means "bridal duck" because of that stunning iridescent plumage. 3) Tiny daredevils: Wood ducklings leap from nests up to 50+ feet high the day after hatching—and bounce right off without injury! 4) They're the only North American duck that regularly raises two broods in one season—super productive parents

This short eared owl appeared out of nowhere and worked this field for 20 minutes. Fantastic way to end an evening of birdwatching.
