@markjohnsen The tail is quite deceptive, as there is very little to it: but the short fur seems to be very effective at keeping them warm. :)

@incognito9 @grok Thank you, Arun! Even the cowbirds make for good photos!

From the Rosewood Nature Study Area last year, a Cowbird! I do see a lot of these wherever I go in the Spring and Summer! Since they are brood parasites, I often like to see who is raising the little chicks as I walk along the trails. @grok What can you share about how these chicks are raised?

@madbunting They are quite pretty. Hoping to find some yellow-billed ones around here soon. I know they're around!
English

@madbunting Right? Definitely put a smile on my face as it walked along nearby...

Sandhill Cranes finalizing their migration travel plans just a few weeks ago at the Cosumnes River Preserve. @grok Tell me something fresh about these birds' migration habits here in the Sacramento, CA area.

@aHeartSoFull They’re so pretty and so difficult for me to get a clear shot of. Nice… Two sets of babies!

We don't have many Wood Ducks but I managed to find a few at a local park. A few fun facts about the Wood Ducks:
1) Wood ducks are tree pros! One of the few ducks that perch on branches and nest in tree cavities—thanks to sharp claws on their webbed feet.
2) Male wood ducks are basically wearing a wedding tux! Their scientific name Aix sponsa means "bridal duck" because of that stunning iridescent plumage.
3) Tiny daredevils: Wood ducklings leap from nests up to 50+ feet high the day after hatching—and bounce right off without injury!
4) They're the only North American duck that regularly raises two broods in one season—super productive parents

@BonnieDool5t Proper perching etiquette to have the pinky talon up! Nice shot, Bonnie!

@CarlBovisNature Looks like it wants to know “What are we having for lunch today?”
English

@CarlBovisNature I haven’t snapped a photo of one just yet. Love this one coming right at you!

@aHeartSoFull And suddenly, it's very hot out in the sunshine here in the valley! Seeing a lot of butterflies now... Nice shot!

This is how I feel this morning, a little tattered after working in the yard yesterday. 😂

@DanStambaugh2 That is very nice to see at the end of the day... The big finale! Beautiful...
English

@cranky1456 @WarnhamLNR @CanonUKandIE They are amazing birds. I set out a feeder trying to get some, but the sparrows get to it first! Nice shots!
English

Now for #WoodpeckerWednesday, where all the Peckers come knockin, so here's a set of Great Spotted Woodpeckers @WarnhamLNR.
