It's your choice to fight for a future where public housing doesn't exist anymore. That's something we will not accept.

The consequences of converting Section 9 public housing to Section 8 is too grave. It means the end of public housing as we know it in the U.S. That is an unacceptable future. What’s left—a housing model w/ market-rate & Section 8 units—does not resemble public housing.

It's not realistic to support both market rate and public housing: 🔹Both have opposing missions (profit & asset appreciation vs providing dignified housing for all at low to no cost).

🔹Supporting market-rate housing means supporting the expansion of the real estate lobby, private housing market industry, and political power of the wealthy class, who function to block government spending & investment in public housing.

🔹Public land & public dollars are finite. NYC choosing to subsidize private developers to build $3k studio units means fewer dollars, resources, and less land to build and preserve public housing for everyone.

The political and economic system of capitalism itself, where profit is the main incentive motive, means that affordability will never scale. It’s inherent in a capitalist system where endless growth, value, and asset appreciation are an expectation.
Alex Jacquez@AlexSJacquez

The the core problem: private developers build most of our housing, and they only build when they can make a profit. Profits depend on rising rents, not just more permits. When rents flatten, building stops. Full stop.

We need bold policies like Section 9 public housing for all, not more of the same incremental neoliberal technocracy that doesn’t scale affordability nor demand massive amounts of direct public investment in housing.
Anti-Displacement NYC@nodisplacement

🚨 Be on the lookout for policy platforms from politicians who use social justice language to launder neoliberal policies (e.g.; calling a 70/30 cross subsidization model a “public option for housing”).

Further, this platform supports RAD conversions (Section 9 to Section 8), exposing existing Section 9 tenants to privatization and private market actors who discriminate and increase evictions.

Another concern with this policy platform is the promotion of “social housing” as a 70/30 mixed income cross subsidization model over supporting direct funding for Section 9 public housing.

libs are really going thru it now. they played the last 80 yrs on easy mode where they just called anything they hated “communist” and the masses would back away from it for fear of being Othered. now, the shaming doesn’t work and they’re left trying to justify western atrocities

Lots of ppl asking why there’s no protests. Bc there is no broad based popular anti imperialist consciousness here, even among “leftists.” What goes on domestically is always seen as more important. They don’t care about the hellfire the U.S. rains down on the rest of the world.

Top researchers say the trickle-down housing agenda pushed by Big Real Estate and YIMBYs won’t solve the housing affordability crisis. Read our article for the details. housingisahumanright.org/are-big-real-e…

A new study suggests that even if the city were to build market-rate housing at a much higher pace, it could take a century to address affordability. Local YIMBYs are (unsurprisingly) not convinced. 📝: @low___impact sfstandard.com/2026/03/03/sf-…

The very concept of public housing as outlined in Section 9 of the 1937 US Housing Act must be protected otherwise anything can be called public housing, including privatization models. Privatization is not public housing. Public housing must be free from private interests.
