Joanna Cherry KC, former SNP MP, has called for a public inquiry into Peter Murrell's embezzlement of party funds. Nicola Sturgeon was investigated and no action was taken against her. She’s stressed today that she had no knowledge of Murrell’s crimes.

I don’t actually believe Sturgeon had any knowledge of what Murrell was up to. It’s a sign that they led completely separate lives, most likely never spoke to one another, and of her professional incuriosity in anything other than consolidating power.

Now we’ve established that Peter Murrell is a liar, could we maybe revisit his evidence to the Alex Salmond inquiry when he claimed he was distracted by magpies in his garden rather than being coached on his evidence by someone off-camera? thescottishsun.co.uk/news/politics/…

Not every marriage is a success, but those ambitious to reach the giddy heights of political life should look at Nicola Sturgeon's statement today - no social life, no holidays, apparently not enough closeness between them to discuss all the stuff being bought. It sounds awful.

The Peter Murrell case is extremely serious. More than £400,000 taken from SNP funds over many years is a grave breach of trust. But the nature of the spending does not read like ordinary financial pressure or simple greed. It does not even read like normal criminal self-enrichment. It reads like a man in real difficulty, struggling with something serious. There is no joy in any of it.
