@smoked_pap it wasnt a company built for the free market, noone wanted to load the new zimbabwe money until they paid old debts from rhodesia, so they could upgrade zisco and esap came to get the said funding and it was over, yes corruption too but it was over by then

The more i read about zisco the more i realized that too much of our history in Zimbabwe is buried in lies and mystery and any time you try to add more facts to the record you can easily come off like a propagandist

funny enough the fall of zisco came from the fall of lanchashire steel which was engineered by haggie rand, whats more interesting is that zisco as an enterprise was never built for the free market under rhodesia, once the subsidies and mandated market was removed the whole thing

“Over the years, Que Que has achieved a most satisfactory measure of diversification, reducing the town’s dependency on one industrial plant…” Sadly, once ZISCO was driven to the ground, many supporting industries fell. Haggie Rand, Lancashire.

@Techzim our platform the African Signal has about 10k viewers weekly i think if they want to sponsor the channel they could reach more investors that way

Zimbabwe has opportunities everywhere The harder part is getting investors to trust and fund them. This new platform is trying to solve exactly that problem We know how difficult it is to raise funding locally. Will this help solve that?

@baba_nyenyedzi i have heard this same argument from staunch capitalists as well, it has its merits outside of what trevor says, but i always maintain that its a hotbed for fraud and unseen levels of financial crimes

Socialist thinking here by Trevor. Markets work on information and less information means information asymmetry, which ironically leads to worse outcomes than the problem Trevor thinks he is trying to solve.

@M_Jay94 @ny_emman i think we genuinely underestimate how many rhodies left with their systems and packed up, they did the same at zisco, yes there was stealing but we were so cooked of the jump, when you say stuff like this they will lynch you

@ny_emman @MethembeThomas That industry did not belong to us. When Rhodesians packed up, they left with their expertise. Black Zimbabweans are all learning from scratch and it’s commendable.

@JoeyK_EDA @ny_emman the import duties are so rediculous in this country that it may actually work lol, its like the reason we do that is to encourage stuff like this, it will look like a stroke of genius but we should have been doing it

@ny_emman @MethembeThomas Here, they will benefit from tax incentives. This car, in theory, should be cheaper than equivalent FBU as import duties won't apply or will be way lower. Let's see.

@ny_emman you gotta start somewhere is my point, the path is made by walking, we wont go from making nothing to high tech manufacturing, we have to start by learning how to assemble stuff well, then we build from there, anything else is a movie

@MethembeThomas Zero factory automation. How do they remain competitive against imports if local cost of production is high?
