The story behind “Layla” is one of the most intense and painful in Rock history.
In 1970, Eric Clapton fell madly in love with Pattie Boyd, who at the time was the wife of his close friend George Harrison of The Beatles. Clapton and Harrison were very close, but Eric couldn’t control his feelings.
Clapton formed the band Derek and the Dominos and recorded the album *Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs*. The song “Layla” was written primarily by him, inspired by an ancient Persian poem about an impossible love, but adapted to his own situation. The lyrics are literally Clapton begging Pattie to leave George: “Layla, you got me on my knees… I’m begging, darling please…”
The famous opening guitar riff was played by Duane Allman, who was invited to the recording sessions. The emotional piano finale was composed by drummer Jim Gordon.
The song was released in 1971 and became a classic. At first, Pattie rejected Clapton, who fell into a deep depression and heroin addiction.
Finally, in 1974, Pattie left George, and in 1979 she married Eric Clapton. The marriage lasted until 1989.
Years later, in 1992, Clapton recorded an acoustic version that won a Grammy and brought “Layla” back to the top of the charts.
@nozynose@sciencegirl You’re walking through electric energy every single day of your life. There’s energy everywhere you go every single spot on the Earth. There’s energy. There’s energy when you hold your hands 3 inches away from each other energies everywhere.
Researchers have shown that electrical energy can be transmitted through open air using a combination of ultrasonic sound waves, laser systems, and radio-frequency technologies.
In Finland, scientists at the University of Helsinki and the University of Oulu are exploring multiple wireless power methods, positioning the country at the forefront of next-generation energy research. One experimental approach uses high-intensity ultrasonic waves to temporarily structure the air, creating a guided pathway for electrical discharges. Often referred to as an “acoustic channel,” this technique relies on sound rather than physical cables to direct electricity.
Although still in the laboratory phase, the technology could eventually enable contact-free electrical connections, allowing devices to operate without plugs, sockets, or conventional wiring.
Finnish innovation also extends beyond sound-based systems. Private-sector companies are developing laser-powered energy transfer, where focused light delivers electricity to remote receivers. This method is especially valuable in environments requiring strong electrical isolation, such as nuclear facilities or high-voltage sites.
Meanwhile, researchers are advancing radio-frequency energy harvesting, capturing ambient electromagnetic signals to power low-energy devices. This approach could significantly reduce dependence on disposable batteries in sensors and Internet-of-Things applications.
Together, these breakthroughs point toward a future where electricity can be delivered more safely, efficiently, and flexibly transforming how energy is distributed across industrial and technological systems.

President Trump looked incredible and strong everyday.
He’s fighting to save this country while a corrupt Congress works against the American people

@Variety He's a has been who has gone woke! Never was a great actor as people claim. He needs to keep his mouth shut about everything that he's whining about. Try watching his television interviews as well, boring, uninteresting as jodie put it, should've never been in the spotlight
When Jodie Foster first met Robert De Niro on the set of "Taxi Driver" at 12 years old, she found him "really uninteresting."
"One of our greatest American actors, so proud to have worked with him — not the most interesting person on earth. And at that time, he was very much in character, the way he was in those days. So he was really uninteresting and I remember having these lunches with him and being like, what is happening? When can I go home? ... But he finally walked me through improvisation by the time we had our third lunch together, and it opened my eyes to what acting could be." variety.com/2025/film/fest…
🚨 Max Verstappen needs to win in Abu Dhabi & Lando Norris needs to finish off the podium.
If that happens, Max Verstappen will be a 5-time world champion.
@F1GuyDan If Max is leading on the last lap, we will see many other drivers doing their best Timo Glock impression in the final few corners if that is needed to get Norris on the podium.
@YahooSports@NFL I don't think he could have changed anything even if there weren't a couple players who could have blocked him if he entered their area.
@JosephGausch@NBCS49ers If the jersey colors were reversed, the guy who ran into the player who had position on the ball would have been called for PI. In this case, it certainly was offensive pass interference.
One of the smartest plays you'll see. 💯

@rhodie3108@NFL When you ARE out of bounds, the ball becomes out of bounds the moment you touch it.
If you come in from out of bounds, being first to touch the ball is an infraction.
