INACTIVE HURRICANE SEASON AHEAD? 🌀 Really interested to see what the new ECMWF seasonal guidance shows tomorrow morning. The last couple of runs have trended drier and drier along the ITCZ, which is a big signal if it holds, less tropical moisture = fewer classic long-track Cape Verde systems. What’s catching my attention even more is the developing El Niño signal. A strengthening El Niño typically ramps up upper-level winds (shear) across the Atlantic, which can tear apart storms before they organize. If this continues to evolve, it would strongly favor below-average hurricane numbers overall. BUT… there’s a twist. There’s a growing signal for “homegrown” development closer to the East Coast. Decaying frontal boundaries + warmer coastal waters can spin up subtropical or hybrid systems, even in otherwise quiet seasons. That means fewer storms doesn’t necessarily mean lower impact, especially for the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Bottom line: 📉 Fewer total storms possible (thanks to El Niño + dry ITCZ) 🌊 Higher chance of near-coast development ⚠️ Localized impacts could still be significant Hurricane season starts June 1st @PIX11News

INSANE VIDEO MOMENTS AFTER A NEWARK NJ AIRPLANE HITS LIGHT POLE BEFORE SAFELY TOUCHING DOWN The dashcam footage is from a bakery truck showing United Airlines Flight 169 which is a Boeing 767-424ER arriving from Venice clips the light pole moments before landing at Newark Liberty International Airport. The light pole then strikes the truck on the ground. Via @rawsalerts @PIX11News

FORECAST HOLDS… SATURDAY’S COASTAL STAYS OFFSHORE 🌊 Showers remain well S & E of NYC with a solid model signal keeping us mostly dry locally. A COOL Saturday overall, but brighter breaks develop the farther north you go — best chances for sun up toward the Hudson Valley and interior. Sunday is way MORE sunshine for all but we can't completely shake the cool. The payoff is coming ⬇️ 🌡️ 70s return Monday 🔥 80s by Tuesday for MANY as a brief but strong warm surge builds in Spring rollercoaster continues… but the warm side is winning early next week. @PIX11News

THE CHILL COMETH 🥶 This is lining up exactly with my May outlook signaling below-average temperatures across the Northeast & Mid-Atlantic. A BIG drop in the Arctic Oscillation / NAO into negative territory will tug the northern jet south and keep the pattern unsettled. This doesn’t mean we’re locked into frost/freeze concerns, but it DOES favor more days stuck in the upper 50s and lower 60s vs. the mid/upper 60s we’d typically expect in May. Add in more clouds and a few damp stretches, and it’ll feel even cooler at times. ON @PIX11News until 10am

DRY WINDOW CLOSING... MODERATE RAIN TO MOVE IN THROUGH THE AFTERNOON... The forecast pretty much behaving as expected with a "taste of rain" happening now becoming widespread through the afternoon. The heaviest rainfall will be overnight going into early Sunday morning which could cause ponding of water on roadways that have drain issues. You and I will feel the chill all day and tonight as temperatures will fall into the 40s once the rain gets going. Still optimism in the idea we clear out the rain by afternoon on Sunday with sunshine N&W of NYC by late day. On @PIX11News until 9:30am with more!

💥MAY OUTLOOK ISSUED As mentioned yesterday I don’t love the outlook ahead and in this video discuss the mean storm track for the month ahead. We likely balance out our normal highs by the end of the month. See you at 8AM with LIVE storm tracking on the @PIX11News Weekend Morning Show
