The future is bright in Moore County! 🌟 Today, the Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills hosted the 64th Junior Builders Cup, recognizing some of Moore County’s most outstanding graduating seniors for excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, school involvement, and community service. Congratulations to Evelyn Miller of Pinecrest High School, who was named the 2026 Junior Builders Cup recipient! Evelyn received a $3,500 scholarship and the distinguished silver bowl in recognition of this prestigious honor. We also proudly congratulate this year’s exceptional nominees: 🏆 Rosemary Abella, North Moore High School 🏆 Emily Auman, Union Pines High School 🏆 Kennedi Hamner, The O’Neal School Each nominee represented their school with excellence and spoke incredibly well during today’s program. Their leadership, character, and commitment to serving others are a true reflection of the remarkable students across Moore County. A special highlight of today’s event was seeing 2025 Junior Builders Cup recipient and Pinecrest alumna Stella Apke return to help present the Cup to Evelyn, continuing a meaningful tradition that has honored student achievement since 1961. 4 in a Row! ⛳🏆 Congratulations to the Pinecrest High School men’s golf team on capturing its fourth consecutive NCHSAA State Championship at Pinehurst No. 8! This marks the team’s first state title in the new 8A classification and adds to an already remarkable legacy of excellence for Patriot golf. With this victory, the Pinecrest men’s golf program now boasts 10 overall state championships. The team also joins the Pinecrest women’s golf team in achieving an incredible four-peat after the women secured their fourth straight title this past fall. ⚓ Back-to-Back Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors! 🇺🇸 Please join us in congratulating the Union Pines High School Navy JROTC program on earning the prestigious designation of Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors for the second consecutive year! 👏 This recognition places Union Pines NJROTC among the top programs in the nation and reflects an outstanding year of leadership, service, competition, and excellence. Throughout the school year, the program hosted numerous regional events, including the Area 5 Orienteering Championship at Raven Rock State Park, the Viking Drill Meet, physical training competitions, the Brain Brawl Academic Competition, and four drone competitions. The program also celebrated national-level success this year, as both the Air Rifle Team and Drone Team qualified for Nationals. 🤖 Middle School Robotics in Action! More than 100 students from all nine of our middle schools are competing today at Pinecrest HS in our annual Robotics Competition, putting their skills to the test in events that challenge precision, speed, and problem-solving. Teams kicked off the competition with a tournament-style Battle Bot Challenge, where a team from West Pine Middle claimed the victory. They are now competing across seven events, including the Bridge Layer, Drag Race, and a Mystery Course. It is incredible to see the innovation, teamwork, and determination on display. A big thank you to our Technology Department for making this event possible each year and for continuing to strengthen STEM education across Moore County Schools.
