@DeadDogLake I agree. I am Anishinaabe working in IndigenousEd in public education. I KNOW it matters bc I see it w/Indigenous kids every day. The gr6 girl who said to me, I didn’t know we could be teachers. We have hard work of structural change in colonial systems & representation matters

It looks like an NDP majority in Manitoba. They are currently at 31 seats. If this holds, Canada will see the first Indigenous Premier on the same day that the first Black Speaker was welcomed into the Senate by the first Inuit Governor General. What a day.

CBC called me last night for my input on this story. This is a glaring example of how problematic it can be for teachers use Teachers Pay Teachers for History/Social Studies because materials are not reviewed or audited for equity. cbc.ca/news/canada/lo…

If you teach Science, get this book! Today we read & annotated the 1st chapter, “Sustainable Land Management & Ecology” as part of our grade 6 Biodiversity unit. We learned about many ways Indigenous grps sustainably live off the land & ensure health for future generations.

It’s back to school week, which is a great time to remind teachers that Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT), although convenient, is not audited through an equity lens, and many non-Indigenous created materials I’ve found are actually harmful. 1/ 🧵 🪡
