I’m increasingly exhausted by the number of founders and CEOs who raised hundreds and hundreds of millions and somehow take almost zero responsibility for vaporizing it. The damage isn’t just to investors (who very often have either been completely wiped out OR didn’t even get their original investment back - let alone an ROI multiple). For me it’s about the EMPLOYEES who bet their careers, their time, and their families’ stability on leaders who simply weren’t up to the job. Everyone knows how much these companies raised and at what valuations. Yet THE PRESS rarely asks the most basic questions about leadership, decision‑making, or accountability. We celebrate the fundraising… and then quietly ignore the wreckage AND/or discuss it vaguely. This isn’t about blame for sport. It’s about honesty. If you take the capital, the title, and the upside, you also take the responsibility for the outcome. THAT IS THE DEAL, or at least it should be…
