when i was a freshman in high school i had a latino crush (juan) who always wore a red hoodie. juan’s mom was a baker so he always smelled like conchas…i loved his smell. i stopped wearing long sleeves in winter so i could always borrow his hoodie. he was shorter than me so it was too small but i wore it anyway. i studied at his house sometimes, so one day he confronted me. he told he had a crush on this girl (who he would eventually date) and asked who my crush was. after some time of my silence, he figured me out. he told me it was an honor to be my crush and it would be our secret. that night when i got home i cried happy tears for hours while smelling his hoodie. juan never outed me, i transferred schools the next year. soon after high school, i found him online and he told me was doing well and got married. i hope the world is still as kind to him as he was to me.
